Thanks guys. She's about 7' and 12ish pounds as of her checkup last year. She is very definitely digging the pool.

what kind of python is she? I'm racking my brain and she doesn't look like any of the (admittedly few) varieties I know. she does look like quite the happy camper though, enjoying that space

thanks guys. that one literally had blood spilled for it (like any good project!). i'll start on the monitor's new tank soon, applying some lessons learned hopefully it won't be as big of a goatscrew to complete.

she is a carpet python, Morelia spilotes. however i have no locality data for her whatsoever. she was found in someone's backyard in Fresno, CA, and brought to a local reptile specialty store. a couple ill-advisedly bought her (the husband was terrified of snakes) and was later brought back to the shop. the owner knew i had a thing for carpets (i had a male that was close to 8' before i left for afghanistan back in 2007 that i've really regretted parting with) so held onto her for me. she was about 5' long when i got her in 2011, she's just under 7' now and about 12 pounds as of her last checkup. she probably doesn't look familiar to anyone because she has a pattern more typical to austrailian carpets than to the more common in the industry SE asia carpets. really laid back for a carpet; they are often prone to being cage-defensive. this one isn't, but she has a really, really well developed feeding response so getting her out with her trying to gnosh on you can be a challenge.

That cage and python is amazing, well done and she looks happy and well cared for. I love seeing these photos.

Here’s one of my favorite recent pics of my youngest kitty Jager , turning 5 in September.

We tell him his legs work fine and he still lays like this often. Usually within 10 seconds of him
running around like a crackhead lol.

Pup tore her cruciate ligament over a week ago and went for major surgery yesterday.

Seeing her in pain and sad makes me sad. My sister also decided to send me a picture of "the inside of her knee, its so cool" while she was in surgery, but I wont share that one cause its gross.

That snake is clearly pretending to be a dragon.

If anyone is in the DC Metro area or knows someone who is, the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) is waiving their adoption fees today and tomorrow because they need more room for animals.

Just picked up a sheepadoodle puppy from PA. Driving back now and then leaving to go to a bachelor party. More pics tomorrow maybe. Depends on how hungover I am.

I really wish I knew why Jager insists on laying like this. It’s almost like he’s posing to be drawn in an art class

while i'm trying to figure out the best way to post a short video, here is a pic of the python going to town on a 600g rat:

    huh. pic is sideways. sorry.

she came out at me like the slinky from hell. she has an overdeveloped feeding response; it's a typical carpet python thing. it took me an hour to get the cage closed because she wedged her body between the door frame and one of the rocks i have built into the side of the pool.

here is my wife's baby redfoot tortoise:

this guy is 2nd generation captive bred. i used to own his parents, but traded them to a friend. my back yard is a tortoise heaven except for the goddamn foxtails. i had to take the big male in to get one of the damn things removed; it had embedded in the corner of his eye. $400 vet bills suck. they are breeding for my friend, she just hatched the 2nd clutch out last month. this little dude they found in their back yard along with three siblings, so they've been breeding on their own.

in the pic he's out taking a soak. they're from central america and they like it wet. the babies are especially prone to dehydration.

Wow I've never heard of them casually breeding like its nbd. That's pretty neat. Try YouTube for your video.
