Lol so because he spurned the Yankees now they don't want him? They'd be overjoyed to have him regardless, that logic would be retarded if true.

I think I'll go back to rooting for the Sox over them now although both fan bases can be insufferable.

No, that's not what I said at all. But they were never getting him from the start, he didn't want an East coast team. Both him and NY want entirely different things.

    ^

He was never going to end up on an East Coast team.

I think he'll be a good pitcher, the other recent Japanese pitchers that came over with similar (and worse even) stats are doing pretty well. I have a hard time believing he'll also be a .268+ hitter but I would love to fucking see it. He's also fast too, it would be really cool.

He may want something entirely different, and apparently did, I'm arguing that NYY didn't/shouldn't want him.

I said I was glad he didn't go there. You responded that the Yankees didn't want him because they only want him to pitch. If true, that's idiotic. Worst case scenario he doesn't pan out trying to do both but it's a relatively minimal investment anyway. If letting him do both is what it takes to get him, you let him try it.

I didn't say they didn't want him. I said they'd rather pay him 300 mil to pitch only, they definitely wanted him who wouldn't. His numbers are like or better than darvish and tanakas and is more likely to succeed as a pitcher than a hitter.

Again - if this is true, it is inane. They'd really pass on a possible ace just because he wants to play some games as a DH also? If he gets hurt because of it or can't hit for shit, who cares, he was cheap anyway.

And I think they'd overpay him in FA for that 200-300mil estimate. "Yankeeing"

Ohtani will be the Angels' designated hitter on many days when he isn't serving as a starting pitcher, Scioscia said.

The Yankees craved Ohtani because of what he offered. An ace caliber pitcher at the price of a 20m posting fee and the all important minimum salary towards the luxury tax over the next few years. They would definitely have risked the injury's that could occur from letting him hit, because if he got hurt, he wouldn't be a huge hit on the budget (20m not counting towards the cap means nothing to the Yankees). Cashman said all the right things when they didn't get a sit down with him, but he probably was beyond panicked about not being able to sign Ohtani. He was supposed to be part of their key to staying competitive while coasting below the tax amount and continuing to shed high contracts.

Stanton should be interesting 6 years plus down the road. The line up is stacked but they still have to compete and are playing with pressure of repeating last years success with a brand new manager to the game itself and two of the games biggest stars in the lineup. Last year they had the luxury of being considered fringe at best and now are considered to be one of the top contenders if they can get a little more starting pitching.

And Mitchell was the tax. It's a fair trade.
