Disney+ is the latest streaming service to introduce a way for friends and family to watch movies and TV together while in different locations.

With the pandemic closing movie theaters and making any kind of indoor socializing pretty risky, the Netflix Party Chrome extension has become the main way I watch TV with friends. Netflix Party doesn’t have any official connection to Netflix, but other streaming services, like Amazon Prime Video and Disney-owned Hulu, have been adding similar features of their own.

Disney has already been testing the new GroupWatch feature in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and today it’s launching for viewers in the United States.

Jerrell Jimerson, the chief product officer for Disney’s streaming services, told me that GroupWatch was already in development before the pandemic, but that the company “worked to accelerate it given the realities of COVID.”

The Disney+ experience has some key advantages over most other co-watching technology, because it doesn’t require users to install a browser extension and it will work on any device, not just laptop and desktop computers. Jimerson explained that the goal was to create something that was “super easy for consumers to use” and that “didn’t take away from the content and didn’t take away from the viewing experience.”

Three Star Wars veterans are joining Disney+'s upcoming Holiday Special, EW has learned.

Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kelly Marie Tran (Rose Tico), and Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian) have all signed onto the voice cast of The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special, an irreverent animated take on the galaxy far, far away that's coming to the streaming service next month.

Daniels and Williams will reprise their Star Wars characters which date back to George Lucas' original trilogy.

"Williams had such great, positive energy around the whole project and, of course, we couldn't do C-3PO without Anthony Daniels and he brought his magic to the character," says executive producer James Waugh.

The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special streams Nov. 17 on Disney+.

Disney+ has officially ordered a Willow sequel series (first teased last year), with Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu handling the pilot and Jonathan Kasdan and Wendy Mericle serving as showrunners. Howard will also be returning as an executive producer, and Davis will be coming back to play Willow Ufgood once again (since you can’t have Willow without Willow). Details about the new Willow are fairly slim, though we know it takes place years after the original—to account for the fact that Davis has aged—and that Howard says it’ll be a “creative lean-forward” and not a “nostalgic throwback.” Chu, meanwhile, is apparently a huge Willow fan, saying in a statement that the movie had a “profound effect” on him as “an Asian-American kid growing up in a Chinese restaurant looking to go to Hollywood.”
