So, I'm surprised we didn't have a thread buried somewhere in preperation for this, or I was jut blind and didn't see it on page 6 or something.
The 2018 Winter Olympics are around the corner!

IOC suspends Russia as penalty for doping but invites individual athletes to 2018 Winter Games in PyeongChang
Russia’s flag and anthem will be absent from February’s Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea, the International Olympic Committee announced Tuesday, as punishment for widespread doping Olympic officials believe was supported by the Russian government. Invited Russian athletes will compete under the name “Olympic Athlete from Russia” and under the Olympic flag.
An inquiry conducted for the World Anti-Doping Agency concluded that more than 1,000 Russian athletes across at least 30 sports had been involved in “an institutional conspiracy” of doping that dated to at least 2011. The IOC has punished 19 Russian athletes and taken away 11 medals for confirmed doping violations during the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia.
I'm really surprised they actually did it. I thought for sure it was going to be some sort of pointless weird sanction or something or some retroactive removal of previous medals.
Seems pretty pointless to me. The country can't go, but all the doped athletes that got Russia banned in the first place can go, just no Russian flags or anthems.

A federal judge declared former gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar a threat to children Thursday morning and sentenced him to 60 years in prison on child pornography charges -- essentially a life sentence for the 54-year-old former physician.
Nassar is also awaiting sentencing for 10 state counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, which he pleaded guilty to in November.
Several of the women who say Nassar abused them filled the federal courtroom with their families in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as Judge Janet T. Neff told Nassar that he had violated the most basic principle of medicine: first do no harm. She said he used his position of authority to sexually assault scores of young women during a decades-long career as a renowned doctor with USA Gymnastics and Michigan State University
Hi Cail,
Visafoto makes photos for Korean olympics. They are 50x40 cm and do not exced 100kb.
North and South Korea will compete together under 1 flag
15 Russians doping convictions were overturned by a court of appeals. The Olympic Committee will still not let them go.

Ivanka, too.
Saw that he's taking the dad of that kid who died in North Korea. Seems like an odd choice..
The events officially start in about 90 minutes. Despite the opening ceremonies not being until Friday, curling, ski jumping, figure skating, and alpine skiing start on Thursday
That one curling dude for the US is getting the Super Mario meme treatment.
I am surprised I didn't see that earlier, even after watching all of their matches. Now I can't unsee it.
Downhill training run 2 getting shortened by the wind to the Super G start, boo! Opening Ceremony wasn't bad, but it felt a little heavy on videos at times rather than having everything in front of them at the stadium. Even then, they weren't bad, and some were great, but it just felt like there wasn't as much going on inside the stadium. Colombians for best dressed team!
The Opening Ceremony wasn't as elaborate as recent years but it was pretty.
Been watching a few different events so far. I always enjoy the craziness of short track speed skating.
Men's Downhill delayed due to wind. Will be on the 14th instead, which was an open day previously.
Organizers have said the opening ceremonies came under cyber attack.
It did not affect critical operations. There were problems with the TV feed and the Olympic website
Good thing they filmed the drones in December! I'd like to thank Katie Couric for pointing that (and other things) out. I bet she's a blast at a magic show. I'm shocked she didn't bother to mention that certain videos were in front of a green screen.
