Movie sucked. It was basically every Marvel movie with a Star Wars shell. Great. My close friends are Star Wars fanatics and I could literally see them dying inside as the movie went on.

Don't really get the hate about the Snoke thing. I know they didn't properly address his backstory, which irks me a bit. But did everyone really want a carbon copy of the Emperor/Vader relationship where Kylo ended up being redeemed in the end? I'm happy he went full on evil so he can become his own big bad without the sith lord and apprentice dynamic again.

PS. I only just realized the significance of this Yoda line

"There is nothing in the tree that she does not already have."

Forgot about that when it was revealed Rey took the books

Pretty much. I think people forget that the Emperor had LESS lines than snoke in the OT. It wasn't until the prequels that we got ANY back story on him. Were there things wrong? Sure. Does it deserve the hate it's getting? No. Poe and Finn both had good character development. Though I wasn't much of a fan of the whole casino thing. I do agree Luke's death was lame though.

Yeah, it's not perfect by any means but I am going to see it again Sunday and have no ragrets.

Agree, could've trimmed the fat with some of the side story.

Also kinda hope Phasma isn't dead. She got more than TFA but she still got kinda chumped.

Not the worst movie ever, but it definitely feels like more of a miss than a hit. Snoke was shaping up to be pretty badass til he up and died. The fight after with the elite troops was also quite a let down. It's like they cut a scene where they discussed the rules of their engagement and said no force powers and you're limited to really standard attacks only. Phasma was laughable yet again. I don't even understand the point of the character. Wtf was up with the eye thing before her assumed death?

I didn't mind the overall arch of Luke, but his "fight" and death were frustratingly bad. There was no payoff for the hype and buildup and his death was a massive letdown after having a decently badass moment literally the scene prior. R2 and C3PO are literally just there for fanservice with little point it seems, beyond a couple of laughs. Leia's force pull through space bit was pretty silly, but whatever. It felt like it really killed a sombering scene though, with Kylo hesitating to kill her, only for his cronies to do it for him.

It may not of been what I was hoping for, but it's still an overall entertaining movie. Kylo and Rey's at-odds relationship is the highlight of it I think. Beyond that, they just missed a lot of the beats that would ring true with any fan. Luke really shoulda stuck around til episode 9. They've mentioned that this trilogy will finish out the Skywalker family story. It's really disappointing that that story is going to end with Kylo, rather than Luke.

I think they had big plans for Leia in ep 9, but what can you do about that :/

Also shit, the first time Kylo and Rey Force Connect, he mentions "You're not doing this, it'd kill you," waving off the idea that she could Force project. And then Luke Force projects and dies from it.

Also I actually love the fact that Rey's parents were no one and really hope they don't retcon that in ep 9. It goes with the movie's theme that resistance can come from every corner, it doesn't have to be some destined Skywalker bullshit. The kid with the broom further illustrated that.

The majority of my theater did not pick up on Luke force projecting. Dude goes from long grey unkempt beard to trimmed beard with not a speck of grey and that's not a dead giveaway? Come on people.

So, just got home from this. It didn't feel as long as it was, to me, however I'm gonna contrast that by saying some of it felt dragged out. Let me also preface that I'm a huge Star Wars fan. Have been since I first saw the movies. Played all the video games, read a lot of the old books, etc.

As for this movie, I liked it, but I didn't. There were definitely a bunch of parts that did not feel like I was watching a Star Wars movie. There were some excellent parts. I thought the whole scenes on the last planet (the name escapes me) were visually astonishing. They did an amazing job with that. The music was also fantastic. But the movie just felt...off. I dont know how else to put it. I put it above the prequels, but below the OT, below R1, and I'm not sure where I put it with TFA.

-I loved that the FO knew exactly where the base was at the beginning. I dont know why, but it makes sense to me.
-I loved the opening battle. It was exciting. You kinda know theyre gonna blow the dreadnaught up, but it was still a well done battle. The Poe comedy when he calls Hux, was "classic" Poe as seen from the opening scene of TFA, but it went on a little long.
-The explanation of how they tracked the resistance "fleet" (3 ships isnt a fleet. also, how does the resistance only have 3 ships? The Rebel Alliance had more than that, shit) was silly. How come the Empire didn't do that? etc
-The Maz scene was silly (not in a good way)
-How Finn+Rose were able to leave on a ship and FO doesnt see it baffles me.
-The casino planet felt forced. It was visually cool, and seemed like a direct shot at real life politics/politicians/corporations. But they didnt get who they went for and just said "ah fuck it, this guy can do it"
-The force-connection was cool and once Luke/Leia did it, you got the feeling like the theory of Kylo/Rey being siblings might be true (til Snoke shot that down)
-The Luke-Rey "training" scenes were kind of ehhhhhh...... there was no training, which was Luke's intentions, but Rey seems to know more about the force and how to use it from nothing
-I thought when the bridge blew, that was how Leia was going out. I was sad and not gonna lie, she a tear. The force pull back felt really silly and I didn't like it. Also, Ackbar died because of that and that fucking sucks
-The lack of backstory on Snoke kind of sucks, but like has been said, we had no backstory on the Emperor either.
-There was no backstory to Rey, which after her vision in TFA, I really thought we were going to get, or at least partially get. That scene in TFA is my favorite scene and the mos t moving to me and it gets 0 mention. Of course, Kylo could just be BSing when he says her parents were nobobies to anger her.
-Snoke dying caught me by surprise. I was not expecting that at all.
-The Rey/Kylo team-up was pretty cool, though, the troops they fought gave them a much harder time, especially Kylo, than they should have.
-I thought Rey/Kylo might have actually teamed up, which would have been cool to see. Get that, and then have Luke bring one of them back at the end of 8 or in 9
-del Toro's characted selling out Finn/Rose was a good twist that I didn't see coming. Good on that
-Finn's character felt very forced in this movie. I didn't care for him at all in this movie and thought most of his scenes were pretty forgettable
-Wasn't a fan of the Poe insurrection
-I really thought Finn was going to sacrifice himself and die to take out that huge cannon.
-I'm surprised no one answered the Resistance's call for help.
-Chewie was barely in the movie, but I know theyre still trying to get away from the original cast.
    -Same with R2/3PO
-BB8 kind of felt forced at times too.
-No idea how they rectify the Leia situation.
-Porgs were fine. Crystal foxes too.
-I did not expect Luke to be a projection. Caught me off-guard and I was confused how Kylo missed him on the advance where it looks like he sliced him in 2.
-Luke's death has me pissed off the most. Like, I get it if because he took the lightsaber to the chest, that kills him somehow "matrix style". but to just, go poof....It was like in Ep3 where Padme dies because she's lost the will to live. Although, I did like the throwback to the Tatooine double-sun before he died. I was more sad when Han died, even though I liked Luke a lot more. And I think it was because of the way they died. Han's was tragic. Luke's was just...eh....

Overall, I'm still at a loss, even after typing out all that, whether or not I truly liked this movie. I'll go see it at least 1 more time in theaters, as I know my mother wants to see it. I'll certainly buy it on Blu-Ray when it comes out and it'll become part of my Star Wars marathons. Maybe its just the initial aftershock of the movie.

I do not understand people being mad about Rey's origins.

    Spoiler: show
IT'S GOOD that she's nobody's daughter, or granddaughter or whatever the fuck people thought going in. She's a new character, she's her own story. Honestly after 30 years are you guys not sick of everybody being related to everybody?

Also spoiler tags in a spoiler thread are dumb but I'm not trying to get banned.

I definitely get it, but, then why have the vision with 2 different Obi-Wan's talking?

A red herring for the audience. Subversion of expectations.

Didn't really like 7 and now this movie just seals the deal for me. I can't believe they kill off Luke like that, what a waste. How are they even gonna do Leia in the next movie?

Glad they didn't reveal the lineage. Then we'd complain it'd be a carbon copy of Empire and Luke's heritage.

Had a fun time really enjoyed the cinematography especially the final showdown.

    Nitpicks etc etc.

    Shut up nerds.

    This was excellent.

A couple of moments had some awkward lines, a bit much too levity etc. but not even close to prequel levels of cringe. Some of the levity worked really well, like Snoke swinging the saber around and bashing Rey in the head with it, Luke throwing the saber away at the start when Rey hands it to him. Then there's lines like "I like this" as Rey's shooting TIEs while the rebellion is making its last stand that seemed off.

And then there's Luke's "See ya round, kid". I had to shake my head at that.

And I'd have to watch them side by side, but with the Falcon going through those tunnels, anyone else feel they copied RotJ inner death star chase a bit much? It felt like even the layout matched it too much. Probably on purpose if it was, but that took me out of the moment a bit for it to be that similar.

Anyone remember the tease where the director or someone involved hinted that this movie would have a "different hue" of lightsaber? Was it one of Snoke's guards? Nothing really stood out (at least in the color of their weapons).

Nice touch at the end was the kid using the force to pull the broom to him, in case anyone missed that.

This was a good movie, but not great. It was an entertaining time, but the most interesting things never really went anywhere (Kylo and Ray's interactions/conflicts).

I think my biggest problem were with Leia's space ass pull and the contrast between stupid kiddy humour for obvious fucking children and actual violence and people getting fucked diced. Movie had no idea what it wanted to be and dragged it's feet for it.

Cool action and nice effects, at least for SW.

Still liked it better than Rogue One, but I think SW is done for now.
