Smartphones are being used to determine if someone is drunk.

American researchers used sensors in smartphones to detect when somebody was over the legal drink-drive limit.

Phones were able to do this with about 90% accuracy when users walked just 10 steps in the study by the University of Pittsburgh.

"We have powerful sensors we carry around with us wherever we go," lead researcher Brian Suffoletto said. "We need to learn how to use them to best serve public health."

The study had 22 participants aged 21 to 43, who were given a vodka and lime juice drink every hour until they reached 80 milligrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

Apple co-developed an iPod in 2005 with the Department of Energy that could secretly record data.

Only four people at the company knew about the project, according to former Apple software engineer David Shayer.

Two men from a defence contractor had arrived at Apple in 2005, on behalf of the US Department of Energy, he said.

They had wanted help to build an iPod that looked and worked just like a normal one but secretly recorded data using hidden extra hardware inside.

Apple had helped the engineers build a custom version of the iPod software to accommodate the secret device, Mr Shayer said.

He said the two engineers, from defence contractor Bechtel, had worked out of an office at Apple's buildings for months.

The pair had been given a copy of the iPod system's source code on DVD and bought their own devices at shops to experiment on, Mr Shayer said.

EARN IT act has moved to the House.
It basically does a run around on internet encryption and privacy, by packaging it under the guise of "save the children/stop the predators".

Call your rep, tell them you want them to no/kill the bill.

doesn't really fit here, but having your smart chastity device hacked would be a privacy concern I guess
    https://twitter.com/BBCTech/status/1313493811717435394
A security flaw in a hi-tech chastity belt for men made it possible for hackers to remotely lock all the devices in use simultaneously.

The internet-linked sheath has no manual override, so owners might have been faced with the prospect of having to use a grinder or bolt cutter to free themselves from its metal clamp.

Mr Lomas' team flagged the issue to Qiui in May, after which it updated its app as well as the server-based application programming interface (API) involved.

But it still left an earlier version of the API online, meaning those who had not downloaded the latest version of the app theoretically remained at risk.

Pen Test Partners sent follow-up emails urging this to be addressed and involved the news site Techcrunch to help press for action.

Techcrunch said Qiui's chief executive subsequently told it he had tried to tackle the issue but added: "When we fix it, it creates more problems."

Five months on from first getting in touch, the UK security team decided to go public.

"Given the trivial nature of finding some of these issues and that Qiui is working on another internal device, we felt compelled to publish," Mr Lomas said.

Reports circulating that Parler was compromised due to insufficient security. Apparently things like DMs, SSNs and Driver's License photos were exposed. CEO is denying it as a hoax.

Mainstream news isn't really saying much but people are talking on social media/message boards.

Didn't post any links because I didn't wanna go one way or the other with it.
