Yeah it had so much controversy around it lol
That's probably not why. They have many other mediums to release the movie on and other movies have done well.
Again, I hate to sound alarmist, but this doesn't bode well for the MCU as we knew it. That could be a good thing but I think we're over the hill with this franchise and this movie would have been a good way to prevent that.

I actually think it’s quite the opposite. This will have been roughly a 2 year break from the MCU. I think a lot of people needed some breathing room from super hero movies after Endgame. And, hopefully, COVID19 not being as serious in May as it is today, it might well help kickstart the next phase.
I dunno about that. It was a live-action remake of a classic Disney movie. I actually think a family-friendly movie like Mulan was one of the best movies to test D++. It's a lot easier for a family to justify $30 for a film that the whole family can watch versus something like Tenet (Black Widow probably falls closer to Mulan than Tenet and would have been another good test).
And as far as the controversies, I think if you asked most people, they wouldn't know anything about the Uighur people.
Dunno, i think being locked up during COVID has recharged my interested in the MCU much faster than if i had been going to the movies more often. I got over my fatigue pretty quick. I'm very ready to hit the theaters again.
Im actually going to wonder if something in ScarJo's contract dealt with royalties and they didn't want to piss her off long term with a D+ release if they ever wanted her back.
Based on the comics, I have to wonder if the after credits scene will be
Spoiler: show

I'll pay and just have a watch party.
About time they decided to do this. Theaters have been open by me for months now so I'll just take the trip there to watch it.
No effing way would I pay extra to watch this on D+. Looks like I know what my first movie theatre experience is going to be in almost two years.
