Characters like Balrog or Urien can't fish for CC's in neutral for big damage anymore. At best it's a hit confirm into a charged fireball/dash straight. I'll take that over a 350+ bnb any day.

After spending a bit of time with AE, the UI/presentation/extras are all much improved. The effort feels like one of the Alpha releases, which (for whatever reason) have been the only games that Capcom has really went all out for.
I haven't had enough time to really evaluate S3 changes, but overall it seems like the game is tuning and refining its core gameplay vision. SF5 is still a turn-based read-heavy game, and it likely always will be, so if you don't like that then you'll never enjoy the game... but that's really no different than saying that if you like zoning you were never going to like SF3, or if you hate comeback mechanics you were never going to like SF4. Each game has a certain fundamental concept, and if you don't agree with that concept the game will never be for you. That said, there's a difference between executing a concept well and executing it poorly, and Capcom seems to be improving the execution of SF5's idea.
That seems like the fairest day 2 assessment I've read so far.
I will say, the god damned menu is 1000x better and more responsive. It literally used to lag offline....
Though, the fight intro with the boxing style lights, etc. was a terrible decision. Just do less on that screen and load the damn game faster...
It actually feels like I bought a complete game this time around lol.
The gameplay is still garbage, but this most certainly should have been the "Day 1" version of the game.
If they ever truly fix AA's (jab AA is def still there, big time) and reduce the ridiculous amount of input lag, I'll be more on board. Characters still need to play more uniquely in the hands of different users, which is a tragedy coming off of SF4's brilliance in this department.
When is the next major? I really want to see how shit shakes out in a top 8 environment.
People are saying Daigo is back on the Ryu grind as well. I just want to see what high level play looks like after all of these changes.
Evo Japan is the next major but I wouldn't expect anything concrete since everyone is going in with only 2 weeks of experience so new sheninigans might be strong right now but figured out later. Winter Brawl or Frosty Faustings are in Feb so they might be slightly better indicators.
Online is still a poopshoot but I had less matches with rollback so it's a plus I guess. It amazes me this game still has lagswitchers though lol. Round 3 against a guy with a big win streak and suddenly it's rollback and teleporting hell? Yea ok.
Edit: I lied, Frosty's is this weekend.
Speaking about input lag, someone on reddit tested the game and said it's at 4~ frames but displaylag tested later and said it's still at 6.4~.
I’ll probably take my day 2 Ed online tonight if anyone is up to kicking my ass lol
Ed got a shitload better in this update btw.
Regarding EVO Japan, the schedule for it is p bad. Tokyo is my favorite place in the World, on my 6th trip coming this year. That being said, January is a terrible time to go. If they would have scheduled this in April, their attendance would have been amazing. They are also idiots and allowed for free-ball registration, which I'm certain is incredibly inflated by Americans that were "planning to go". I saw that Punk wasn't even going. Without him, I honestly don't have much interest in the tournament. I think the Americans going are some shit like Wong, Sherry, Alex Myers, Kami (hardest player ever to cheer for), Marn, and Smug. That is a really poor showing.
Push Start and you can Make Vs. Screen Bland Again.

I like the boxing style intro. Then again, I’m a guy who’s still waiting for a new Fight Night game lol.
EDIT: 2018 and assholes still rage quit and/or give up on 2/3 in casual matches.
First run with my day 2 Ed online after not having touched SF in a year. 43-7
lmao
This game is much improved. It has more ground to cover, but this should have been launch day. I hope Capcom is waking up. Put trash effort in and get a trash response in return.
You get what you give.
I'm curious what Ed's properties are on standing LP (AA of course). It hits in front of him for miles, directly above him, and behind him. Absolutely horrible design.
He deserves to lose just for the name
