Party Feature Update
For PS4 fans who love to play alongside their friends or other community members, the Party feature has been rebuilt to include new features and services including:
- Maximum number of Party users increased from 8 to 16
- Network connectivity improved
- Audio quality improved
- Accessibility support with Chat Transcription has been added (US Only)
Within the Party feature, you will experience better network connectivity and audio quality. The improved back-end now improves network connectivity and allows users to overcome connectivity issues previously experienced when connecting with other users.
Lastly, the Party App will also offer a new Chat Transcription feature for US users via the PS4 Second Screen App on your smartphone or other mobile devices. The new feature supports US English and converts party voice chat to text, or enables you to enter text that is read aloud to other party members. If using your mobile device to connect to your PS4 during a Party, you will now see a new Party tab has been added where the new functionality is available.
Remote Play
For those who want to stream select PS4 games on mobile devices, Remote Play can now be used on smartphones and tablets running Android 5.0 or higher. Just download the PS4 Remote Play App from the Google Play store to use the feature.
Meanwhile, for iPhone or iPad users, the Remote Play App has been updated so you can now display the controller at all times and lock the screen orientation.
Also, players will be able to use their DualShock 4 wireless controllers via Bluetooth for Remote Play on an Android, iPhone, iPad, and Mac. All you need to do is update to Android 10, iOS 13, iPadOS 13, or macOS Catalina (releasing in October) to use this feature.
Sony is dropping PlayStation Vue service as of 1/30/20 to “focus on games”. RIP
God fucking damnit, YouTube tv or something it is I guess.
Vue last I checked was the only service that offer NFL Redzone without an accompanying TV subscription
Nioh and Outlast 2 will be PS Plus games for November :3
Outlast 2 was too spooky for Saudi Arabia so they get Goat Simulator instead. A bit on the nose, Sony.
Hermen Hulst (Guerrilla Games) Named Sony's New Head of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida to Focus on Indie Creators Working with the PlatformSony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), the company responsible for the PlayStation brand and family of products, has today announced the promotion of Guerrilla’s Hermen Hulst to Head of Worldwide Studios (WWS) effective immediately. In this role, Hulst will manage and lead all game development across the 14 studios that form Worldwide Studios. The company also announced that Shuhei Yoshida will leave his current position as President, WWS, to become head of a newly formed initiative that will focus on nurturing external independent creators.
“Hermen is one of the most effective and well-respected leaders in the video game industry. He is a passionate advocate for the teams he leads and understands how to empower creative talent to build great experiences,” said Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment. “Worldwide Studios is a critical part of the future success of the company, and we must deliver on the promise we have made to gamers to create imaginative and exciting content that is truly unique to PlayStation. I have no doubt Hermen can lead our teams to deliver compelling and diverse experiences at a steady cadence.”
Hulst co-founded Amsterdam-based Guerrilla, and most recently served as Managing Director. The studio is best known for the Killzone franchise, which debuted on PlayStation 2 in 2004, and the acclaimed Horizon Zero Dawn, which launched in 2017 on PlayStation 4. Under Hulst’s leadership, Guerrilla has continued to innovate and developed Decima, a proprietary game engine launched in 2013 and used for the production of a range of titles, including the upcoming Death Stranding by Kojima Productions. Sony Computer Entertainment acquired Guerilla in 2005. Angie Smets, Jan-Bart van Beek and Michiel van der Leeuw will take over Hulst’s duties at Guerrilla as joint studio heads.
“I have worked closely with PlayStation and the entire Worldwide Studios family since 2001, and I have the utmost respect and admiration for the creative talent and ambitious ideas within the network of studios across the US, Europe, and Japan,” said Hulst, Head of Worldwide Studios. “I am beyond excited to have the opportunity now to lead such an inspired and talented team whose singular mission is to build amazing games for PlayStation fans.”
Today, SIE also announced a new company initiative led by PlayStation veteran Shuhei Yoshida and focused on celebrating external developers that are creating new and unexpected experiences for the gaming community. Reporting directly to Jim Ryan, Yoshida will leave his role at WWS to concentrate on our diverse community of independent developers, ensuring they have the tools, technology, and services to reach PlayStation’s large community of gamers successfully.
“I am thrilled to announce Shu Yoshida as head of this new initiative. Everybody knows just how passionate Shu is about independent games – they are lifeblood of the industry, making our content portfolio so special for our gamers. These wildly creative experiences deserve focus and a champion like Shu at PlayStation who will ensure the entire SIE organization works together to better engage with independent developers through a culture of supporting and celebrating their contributions to PlayStation platforms,” added Ryan.
Part of me is a little worried with regards to the amount of corporate shuffling happening here a year prior to PS5's supposed launch, especially in the whole globalizing of Sony instead of having region-focused divisions that cater to their local/cultural needs.
I'm still not even sure what to think of the PS4 as a whole for someone who mostly gamed on PC this gen. It was nice seeing Sony buck the trend of GaaS crap or multiplayer-focused games in favor of single-player titles (which fortunately most of them sold/were received very well), but even then there wasn't much to define that generation.
Tbh, considering console exclusives, i think sony destroyed the competition this gen. So many new IPs, great sequels to games they already have, just all around great first party publishing.

An animator Sony Japan hired for their latest lineup video plagiarized the fuck out of other established works. Sony has since pulled the original upload.
Basically that guy's entire portfolio of work is entirely comprised of traces of other people's animations being passed off as his.
