It was okay. Gave me loads of unanswered questions about the Cloverfield universe as a whole.

    Spoiler: show
I'm no big scientist but without an Earth to Orbit, wouldn't the Space station have just gone flying off into space?

And to say theres this massive world war that can't work together to rebuild the particle accelerator, then how is there 8 Billion people?

Also, something that really annoys me in movies like this, when the lead leaves a message for themselves in another world/time, they never just say "I'm from a different world/time" and it irritates the shit out of me. Atleast with Time travel it can make logical sense not to mention it but the whole "I don't have a lot of time so I have to drag on this sentence with weirdly cryptic shit that might not apply to you but you have to trust these random words from space that will also be seen by anyone else able to pick them up and in no way could ever possibly be misunderstood by you or another person that could never get you in trouble but totally will get you in trouble"

But 10 Cloverfield Lane wasn't a monster movie either. This one was pretty clearly your typical "space disaster" movie

Ya but at least I got a really good movie out of 10 Clover even if it wasn't what I went in expecting/wanting. My issue is that I had to sit through trash and get a cocktease.

And I normally like the space thriller movies.

Yeah. It's definitely at the opposite end of the spectrum quality-wise as 10 Clover.

I had the benefit of low expectations given it was a Netflix release and I found the schlock interesting enough to be enjoyable. I found it to be better than "Life" at least lol

I do think it would have benefited from more of a plot "on the ground" with the husband. It ended up being a milquetoast combo of Sunshine and Event Horizon

the absolute fuck is wrong with you. Literally only reason I had any hope for this movie initially, but it failed, it failed in every aspect.

    About Munday:

    Spoiler: show
For someone completely losing their arm, how was he not absolutely shitting himself for the rest of the movie?

I was thinking I would be paranoid to come into contact with any surfaces for the rest of the film lest they steal another appendage. I thought his humor with it worked though, would've fallen flat if they played it straight

I wish there were more space horror films. There's a lot of really creepy and disturbing shit to explore with alternate dimensions

Alot of stuff didn't make sense to me until i heard of an early script where the alternate crew is alive and fighting the main crew.
With this in mind most of the scenes actually made sense.
    Spoiler: show

The initial weird events are them interacting with the main universe as what from our perspective looks like poltergeists. Once they notice this they start experimenting on what they can actually do which is why photos swap around, readings get weird all over the space station and so forth. Their main goal is to steal the working space station for their home dimension for fairly obvious reasons. The foosball table was moving because they were actually playing a game in their alternate dimension when everything got entangled.
Blondie is a plant by the alt crew which went horribly wrong as whatever method they have for sending things in/out wasn't accurate yet or she was simply too heavy to accurately do so. The worms disappear as part of them trying to take things out of the main dimension. They attempt to poke and mess around with worm dude as part of the experiments at communication since they know he's the most receptive to anything bad about schmidt (whom may have actually betrayed them in the alt dimension so they assume he would too.) and eventually manage to get him to communicate with his alt self. Wormdude fails and in a panic about him revealing their existence they off him the first way they can which results in explosion by worm. They then frame schmidt for sabotage with the computer.
At this point you should hopefully start noticing that the alt crew really wanted blondie in charge of engineering.
Next up is an experiment on taking things out of the main dimension where they outright try to snatch a a dude but only manage his arm since he had backup and leverage. The unexpected result of this is a fully attached and working disembodied hand which gives them the idea to do it to their own crew member. This alt hand then informs the main crew about the location of the compass the alt crew stashed or misplaced in the body to manipulate them. Schmidt's door unlocking is a result of them opening the door so that he could run into the hand.
From here on the alt crew has noticed that their plant is still in the med bay and not in charge so they resort to killing the other engineer to get her in a more advantageous position. The Chinese girl dies due to deliberate sabotage and the alt crew either jams the door or are physically holding it shut. The plant attempts to complete the work since the alt crew has less data on how to make a WORKING power source than the main crew. Once the main crew has a theoretically working method, the alt crew starts actually trying to work on killing off people or at least sabotages the jump back since they want the station to be kept in their home dimension.
The alt crew's perspective is probably similar to our perspective of them in the film so they can't interfere properly from here on out since things are too chaotic and they know they're winning in the fights up until they lose at the last second. By that point they've lost as well so they refrain from attempting anything else since the main dimension can at least be saved or they got sucked out into space in the alt dimension too.

The orbit is due to the force exerted by earth's gravity. In space, without the application of an external force, you will remain stationary. You are both right and wrong under 2 cases respectively:

1: The station is transported across the sun with an initial velocity equal to the instantaneous velocity in orbit at the moment of teleportation = woosh off into space.
2: The station is transported and the effect of all external forces due to the earth are stripped due to magic = stationary

Both are equally dumb because they involve teleportation and once you cross that barrier then it doesn't really matter what you say happened because it's all nonsense.

Edit: Event Horizon is amazing and you need to watch it now.

For this, by about 1 hour in I just started fast-forwarding through most of the character-building exposition. Shit was a waste of my time.

Was literally all downhill from there til the last 10 seconds because from that point on I expected "Event Horizon 2: This time we have fucking space monsters."

You should just see it regardless. It might have gotten a bit of bad reviews and such and think it actually lost money lol but it was pretty amazing visually and just general fucked upness and did a good job with the whole foreboding space horror feel. Plus I think it started the whole stick a pencil thru folded paper to explain wormholes thing. But this time with porn mag

I don't feel like rewatching to check but the alternate universe was also several months ahead of time which is why their position is different. One of the first things the scientists also panicked about is the fact that they have nothing to orbit anymore. How they missed noticing THE FUCKING SUN is something I have absolutely no understanding of. So basically the orbital velocity thing was actually noted in the film and Myrrh didn't notice.

I felt like I was in an event horizon spin off as soon as the generator went wrong and flipped em and you had the russian guy playing with with his, when blondie was stuck in the wall I thought it guaranteed I was getting a event horizon-esque movie. But alas, trash.

It's better than this, but keep in mind it's from 1997. It has... aged a bit.

Event Horizon really hasn't aged poorly. I wish they'd release the original cut though. I was so... extreme... that a lot ended up on the cutting room floor, never to be seen again
