Even the preview for that vid is much better.
<3 Dunkey lol
Fuck Knack.

I do think Max is pretty accurate in his analysis. Even IF all we got was a port, I still think most people would be pretty happy, but it's unlikely that is the case.

What if everyone in this tweet chain before the mini direct was in on it? That giant flaming Smash logo seems like a convenient coincidence when I started thing about this today. Especially since MegaMan and Sonic were the first two additions - 2 likely locks for returning.
As for the game itself, no I don't think it will be a Wii U version - so in that sense yes it will be a new game. I also don't think it will be Switch's Brawl to GC's Melee.
4.5 would be a graphics change, merge the 3DS and Wii U stage options, include some missing content like Target Smash, and a character revamp without changing the mechanics much from Wii U, and bring on 4-5 new characters and return the missing few (Wolf, Pokemon Trainer, Ice Climbers). As a part of that change, Smash becomes more of a platform integrated with Nintendo's online service instead of a standalone title with installments.
It simple...we kill the batm...Smash 4.

@NintendoAmerica Hey Nintendo, When's our boy Goku going to join the fight?
It would be cool, no doubt. Although I would have a hard time qualifying what Goku has to do with a history of "important" Nintendo characters or gaming in general.
Yeah, yeah...Cloud/Ryu. But at least Cloud's inclusion signifies the rift over the PSX and Street Fighter 2 was HUUUUUUGE on the SNES. Goku is a popular guy, but his presence as a Nintendo character is negligible at best.
I give this two months after release before it dies and autists go back to melee.
Bomberman, Bomberman, mass destruction across the land
Makes a bomb, any size, and he's yours to customize
That's right!
Your very own Bomberman.

That means the lesser autists and more sane people will stick to the current game. The melee playerbase will do everything possible to keep melee alive. But smash 4 is still very relevant with totally different players, and i still think smash 4 is more fun to watch than melee by a million miles.
yeah, i think it's clear at this point that melee has its own distinct audience and scene which has zero interest in smash as a series. which is totally fine! they can hang out in their own little corner of evo and smell like an actual decaying corpse and leave the cool and fun games to the rest of us nice and normal people
