That would be what any sensible person would do but in the outrage culture we now take everything at a face value and deliver punishment before the proof there was a crime. With some of those previous cases Disney probably just wants to avoid any type of further shit people can dig up on Gunn. Like in Al Franken case at first there was that picture and some stupid jokes which to me were just looked like a guy acting stupid around other guys but than there were more women who came out with allegations. Now that this is out who knows if something else won't come out. True or untrue doesn't matter, it's better for Disney to avoid it all.

The "outrage culture" label most often gets slapped on the "PC" left though, and they aren't the ones driving the witch hunt for Gunn. MAGA chuds don't need a reason to go after someone.

No they arn't but they created an environment where this is perfectly acceptable to do this to someone who voted for Trump or doesn't perfectly align with their ideology, now they are butthurt this is used against "one of their own." If this was about "It's not okay to joke about pedos and kid touching" I would think it's stupid, but at least they would be coming after Gunn for something he actually *did*. The left goes after people for things they actually *do.* People are shaming Trump officials for being complicit and helping to run baby jails. Richard Spencer got punched because he is a literal white supremacist.

Treating outrage from one side as equivalent to the other is the same as saying CNN is as bad as Fox just because they are both biased. Scope matters. The two sides have different standards of accountability, and empowering them has different effects.

You say they go after people for things they actually do but you mentioned Chris Hardwick who they went after for things he "allegedly" did. There was no proof other than something a woman with history of being mentally unstable said. Roseann got fired and rightfully so for spewing out crazy shit which in her mind could actually been a joke. She's known to be a nutcase. Even if it wasn't a joke hating someone for whatever reason is not a crime but your employer is rightfully entitled to fire you if they choose to do so when they find your behavior problematic. Therefore if we're going with this line of logic, Gunn DID post those tweets, sure he apologized but he still did it and Disney has just as much right to fire him. Roseann got fired for saying stupid shit not beating up black lady just like Gunn got fired for saying stupid shit no molesting children.

Gred, one thing I would mention is that Disney hiring people etc is a business. I agree with everything you're saying but I don't think they can really treat situations like these on a case-by-case basis because then there would be outrage about bias of right leaning people being fired for offensive tweets whereas left leaning people are given a slap on the wrist. Get what I'm saying? I figure that's part of the reason why they fired him because they don't want that double-standard tag. And the right will use the same tools against the left that the left is using against them, regardless if it's equally outrageous. Both sides will use whatever tactics they see effective to win the culture war

additionally, I would say that the #metoo movement has put joking tweets like that in a sort of bomb threat type of seriousness

Oswalt and Silverman are comedians known for saying outrageous shit so people treat that differently. Also, you can't really attack them the same way you can with Gunn, they do shows, they sell tickets, it's harder to fuck with them and their audience is different. Gunn is responsible for incredible amounts of money, GOTG3 will probably run Disney 700 millions and Gunn supposed to be involved in the future of Marvel universe so that's billions and billions of dollars. If Gunn tweeted a pedo joke yesterday I wouldn't care but right now even though this was 10 years ago Disney must feel it will have enough impact to negatively affect their brand and piles of cash. We're not dealing with a guy responsible for dinner shift at Applebees, he's in charge of a billion dollar franchise. Disney is not a moral arbiter neither is Hollywood as much as they pretend to be so, if pedos sold Disney be making movies about Mickey diddling children all the time. Gunns tweets have potential to fuck with their golden goose even if they were 10 years ago and that's what it comes down to.

I understand Disney's commercial decision, I just don't agree with it. From what I understand, these tweets were already dealt with and apologized for a long time ago, but now, some radio guy who had done similar shit is out to get Gunn because he's anti-Trump.

I'm more upset than I should be, tbh.
