A lot of you probably saw this already, but...

Kubo has drawn a new 73-page one-off chapter in honor of Bleach's 20th Anniversary (today), which is set to appear in the combined Weekly Shōnen Jump issue #36/37 due out August 10.

And to get this thread up to speed on happenings since last year's announcement of the anime returning...

• Per Kubo, the anime will be airing in a midnight timeslot, and will therefore not be subject to any censorship whatsoever.
• A large Bleach Expo will take place in Dec 2021, where we should expect trailers and official announcements.
• Anime production was expected to last 2 years after its Mar 2020 announcement, so we shouldn't expect anything earlier than Q2 2022, especially considering that timeline likely didn't account for pandemic delays when it was conveyed.
• Kubo had a lot of ideas for the TYBW arc that he was forced to cut for the sake of ending the series by the publisher's unreasonable, sudden deadline (and his own shit health); we can expect to see a lot of them in the new anime, which will make some plot elements differ from what we saw in the manga.
• Bleach is coming to FUNIMATION...
• Still unclear whether original studio Pierrot will handle this revival, or MAPPA (Attack on Titan, Chainsaw Man).
• Unclear whether Burn The Witch will continue beyond the announced "second season".

Is Burn the Witch just a short anime OVA so far, or was it meant to be a serialized manga? I remember reading the oneshot forever ago.

"Season Two" of the BTW manga was promised awhile back, but unknown whether it will continue beyond that. Release TBD.

And yeah, I thought today's anniversary one-off would be a standalone story. This is starting a new arc.

Few random thoughts since digesting that:

1. The eyes Kazui summoned were Yhwach's eyes. Curious what that means.
2. The opening bit about the fish is referring to Ukitake, and may have been spoken by him. And Sōgyo no Kotowari translate to Truth of Pisces. The twin fishes. (this last part taken from Reddit)
3. I wonder if Burn the Witch and Bleach will cross over in this, since they are in the same universe. Would be an interesting thought.

Regardless, it seems Ukitake will be center to this, which I'm 100% all for. I do wonder if Kubo will use this to bring back some of the captains. I'm still bummed we never got to see a full rage mode Retsu.
