April 26th, 1:23 AM Ukrainian time. Exactly at this date and time the Chernobyl nuclear catastrophe has started. The melted core of the burning Reactor No. 4 mixed with the other chemical substances to create a highly radioactive material that hadn't exist anywhere in the world besides Chernobyl.

And we're going to tell you the story of Chernobylite: conspiracy, horror, survival, love, and obsession in a form of a video game.

But it's just the beginning. We're a game development team from Poland that has been spending a lot of time in Chernobyl Exclusion Zone gathering all data and materials required to make the ultimate survival horror experience of the Chernobyl catastrophe. We want to bring you a deep, emotional story, engaging survival and horror experience, and a visually stunning recreation of Chernobyl area achieved with detailed 3D scanning of rich game world, beautifully rendered in Unreal Engine 4.

Kickstarter Campaign Announced, Playable at PAX

The Farm 51 – the studio responsible for the critically acclaimed game Get Even – release the first gameplay teaser for their upcoming sci-fi survival horror, Chernobylite, and announce plans for a Kickstarter campaign.

The unrestricted exploration of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone combined with non-linear storytelling, unique crafting, and challenging opponents to fight is an exceptional mix. A mix that must have its accents carefully spread out between all its components in order to ensure that the final result will be a one-of-a-kind experience to be remembered for years. This is why Chernobylite will soon be heading to Kickstarter – to give players a chance to support the game throughout its development and have a meaningful impact on its final form.

Chernobylite’s first hands-on demo will be available during PAX East in Boston this year. You’ll be able to play the game in the Indie Games Poland booth number 12114.

"Ever since we’ve announced our game, we’ve been receiving tons of comments and feedback from the gaming community out there, and it all led us to one conclusion. That everybody hopes to be able to explore the destroyed Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant and Pripyat ghost city in our game as deeply as possible. And we’re more than eager to deliver that. But this means, that we should expand the locations in the game comparing to the original concept we had, and ask gamers for their help in doing so. It's a hard and dangerous task, keeping in mind that to achieve that goal, we’ll need to make some extra trips to the Exclusion Zone and scan even more buildings and objects.

That is precisely why we’ve decided to reach out for the community support. Within the next few weeks, we'll be starting the Kickstarter campaign for Chernobylite. During its duration gamers will get the chance to pre-order the game and make pledges to receive some really cool items, including the highly demanded Black Stalker mask. The crowdfunding campaign will also let us collect some extra funds to do the Chernobylite location expansions plus add some extra features that we were always dreaming of. Chernobylite is currently under development and on its way to PCs and consoles, that will be preceded by the upcoming Kickstarter campaign. The game utilizes Unreal Engine 4 and is based on Reality 51’s scanning technology, which is in development by The Farm 51 for over five years.

Now, then: Igor, Chernobylite’s main protagonist. His voice sounded familiar, right? No surprises there: the character’s voiceover was performed by none other than Aleksandr Vilkov – the voice of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.’s main protagonist and some of the principal NPCs in the Metro series.

Coming to Steam & GOG Early Access Programs

Thanks to the great support and feedback from Kickstarter backers playing the Closed Alpha of Chernobylite in September, the game is already optimized and ready to be released in an Early Access version on Steam and GOG. The originally planned price of 36 USD, was not great, not terrible, but developers decided to lower it for much more affordable 29.99 USD. Furthermore, following the idea of non-exclusivity on publishing platforms, the Early Access will be released not only on Steam, but also on GOG through their “Games in Development” program.

After a few years working on an extremely accurate re-creation of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, developers prepared a video comparing the real locations with their virtual counterparts. You’ll see there how precisely Pripyat and Chernobyl’s signature places have been digitized into game objects with the help of photogrammetry and other advanced 3D-scanning techniques implemented within their Reality 51 technology.

For a greater authenticity of the world setting, the initial release had all in-game dialogues recorded in Russian, with the help of voice actors from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Metro series before. The game is already subtitled in English and Russian, and the next languages (English and Ukrainian voices, subtitles in French, German, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Hungarian, and more) will be added soon after the Early Access launch.

The full release is planned for the second half of 2020, so be sure to follow Chernobylite’s Steam and Discord to keep up with all news and updates from the developers who are always happy to engage in discussions with their fans.
