Darn the liberal media for pointing out that the president has been unsuccessful in his attempts to tank the economy:

IIRC it dropped to around $0.30 per share or something like that and it only went back up to that point because they consolidated stocks or reverse split them, I forget the term used in the CNN article and I can't find the article again.

They did a 26:1 reverse split.

Ok so it is called a reverse split. I wasn't sure if I was remembering the term correctly.

So if you owned 26 shares yesterday you own 1 today? Jesus.

I am not a finance person so I might be wrong on this but it was described as a purely cosmetic change to bolster the individual stock value but in the end it didn't increase or decrease value.

    Right.

Also on many exchanges you have to keep your stock price above a certain level to remain listed, so reverse-splits are sometimes done for that purpose.

In name only, the inherent value of the stock is the same. You owned 26 shares at $1, now you own 1 share at $26.

Hilariously, they are already back down to one so the effective share price is about 4 cents pre-split.

I'm not much for economics, as a politician I'd likely be hiring someone from this board to advise me on the finer points.

Probably not "finance" related but some happy medical school graduates in Texas decided to pay off an entire class' 4-year tuition.

Thousands of students everywhere are both pissed and jealous.

Shit better not effect my current subscription. I've only seen 21 movies this year so far. Need to squeeze more value from my pass

It is definitely going to. The company is going out of business. You will cease receive services at that point.

Can I ask a personal finance related question here? I wasn't sure where else to put it. I am fairly cash poor having two kids but I do have some extra money from my photography which is a side job to my full time job. Right now it is just sitting in the bank. What is the best way for me to get into doing something with it more than having it sit in the bank? It would be nice to have it working at least enough to offset inflation. It isn't much just about $2,000 which I know is throwaway money for some of you rich boys here but what do finance geniuses of BG?

I don't want to dump it into my 401k or an IRA though as I would like to be able to cash it out and use it if I need to buy a new camera or some other piece of equipment. It is also extra money so I am ok with slightly riskier propositions though I don't want to throw it down in a casino or race track or something like that.

Read the wiki in the /r/personalfinance subreddit, very informative. Once you have an emergency fund saved, there are a lot of options with varying rates of return, risk, and liquidity.
