I rewatched Specter before going to see this, and the way Bond and Madeline break up at the start didn't sit well with me. I understand that Craig's Bond has been built around trust issues and everything that happened with Vesper, but it felt like it undermined any trust he had built with her too quickly. I think I like the intro less the more I stew on it and within the context of the whole movie.
I know some people are going to be upset (on both sides of the issue), but I thought they handled passing the 007 codename on pretty well. That said, this was definitely a Bond film, not a 007 film, and for how heavily she was featured in the promotional material/how much she was discussed, Nomi was not really as significant as I expected. The whole "reinstate Bond as 007" thing before the final act was dumb though.
Also thought they wasted a great opportunity for Bond to pass the torch -- let Bond escape with his family and have her stay back to finish the mission. I know why they didn't do it that way given where the story went, but still feels like a wasted opportunity. It feels like they had to kill off Bond because having it end with him alive would have been too much of a repeat of Specter where he rides off into the sunset with Madeline.
Having seen it, if the plot was one of the reasons it got delayed, it 100% makes sense. While watching it, there were definitely a few moments that hit differently than they would have pre-covid.
