I mean, I think Kotkaniemi is prolly a fine pick, he could turn out to be a 1C but the Habs have been pretty awful the last few years trading away guys who could play Center and trying out guys who have clearly failed at C, so passing on Zadina who looks like he could be an elite goal scorer and good two way guy, to chase another C is kinda lulzy.
Maybe nobody wanted to trade down with them, idk, or they knew the Coyotes would take him, but MTL has a ton of holes (and are about to have more), and passing on the best player available, for a need player, isn't usually a good draft strategy. ofc the Yotes and Sens also passed on him, but Hayton was a big reach and Tkachuk is just rated too high lol.
DET and NYI killed it this draft tho. I was hoping to trade Gru for NYI's 11or12 and either get Karlsson somehow or snag Walhstrom in the draft but w/e.
Kobslchuck 3 years with the kings
3 years $6.25M AAV. Well that's some news to wake up to. So how the fuck is Doughty's extension going to work with this contract?
Seems like an overpay to me. Blake must be figuring the cap go up again next year to fit a deal in for Doughty?
That or he thinks he can move Brown out somehow.
Wooooooooooooooooooooo

TRADE: To Calgary #Flames: Elias Lindholm (F) Noah Hanifin (D)
To Carolina #Hurricanes: Dougie Hamilton (D) Michael Ferland (F) Adam Fox (D)
Brooks Orpik on waivers for purpose of a buyout
Lindholm will be a good upgrade on Ferland, especially since he plays right wing and can actually slot in on the top line. Losing Dougie suuuuucks. Guy is great. But Hanafin definitely has some upside too being only 21 and having 10 goals and 22 assists last year on a garbage team.
I’m torn, I like the two we brought in and I’m so~so on who we sent out. Don’t mind losing Ferland but Dougie is solid and Adam Fox is a great prospect too with high potential. I think Fox got traded because he made it pretty clear he wasn’t going to sign with Calgary outta college
Toronto signed Connor Carrick 1yr 1.3mil
Vancouver signed Markus Granlund 1yr 1.475mil
Dallas signed Stephen Johns 3yrs 2.35mil AAV
The more and more I look into this trade, the more I'm hearing rumblings about Dougie's dissatisfaction with being on the Flames. I dunno how much of that is truth and how much of it is media-spin though. His brother Freddie being traded away I'm sure didn't sit well with him. And supposedly he didn't gel well with the team, which I don't really buy into. So I dunno. Treliving's interview after the trade, he said a couple times how Calgary wanted players who wanted to be in Calgary. And obviously he meant Fox, but could have potentially been a subtle hint towards Dougie too. Definitely not Ferland though.
Trading Adam Fox made sense, the kid wasn't going to sign with Calgary out of college as much as that sucks to hear as he's pretty coveted as a prospect. And Ferland, again, I like him a lot, but I'm not surprised he was used as a trade chip after his above average season last year.
Edit: That being said, I'm really really happy with who we got back. Lindholm can skate and make plays and open ice up for himself. Not to mention a right-shot right winger who can also play center and slot into that top line. Ferland put up good numbers but you have to question how much of that was him on his own and how much of that was Johnny+Mony helping him get those numbers. But in Lindholm, I can really see that top line cemented and looking dominant.
Hanifin is young, but at 21 has already played nearly 240 games in the NHL (239 specifically). Kid has a LOT of upside and could potentially become our #1 defensemen in a few years. He's also good friends with Tkachuk and Gaudreau so that helps a lot.
Philipp Grubauer signing a 3yr 10mil~ contract with Colorado
Ottawa signed Chris Wideman 1yr 1mil
Washington re-signing John Carlson 8yrs 8mil aav
meh. Caps fans love it atm but in a few years when he is 32-36 people gonna hate paying him 8m a year. I love him but not 8m aav love him. Offensively and PP, he is solid, defensively he isn't worth 8m. Hopefully we re-sign Kempny cause he covered Calrson's ass pretty well defensively.
We also have to re-sign Vrana, Bura and Djoos next year, all RFAs but still, gonna be hard to keep everyone around with all this money locked up in long ass contracts.
I'm in the same boat. Like that he's back, but 8x8 is mehhhhhh....not great
