idk man, pseudo good guy scorpion didn't do it for me. I enjoy the actor and choreography, but as a "scorpion"? Meh. His fatality was good, but then taking his mask off and on constantly was odd. Minor gripes, and not bad just not what I wanted.

The violence barely saved it for me. The good shit was way too fast and the rest was just crap I didn't care about.

Mileena ripping her mouth open was freaking sweet but then she gets one shot by Sonya.

Everything just felt like busy work to get us to the final fight. Feels like that was the only thing they had really fleshed out and were like "okay, now what do we put in between? Ehh, how about bullshit training shit and some bullshit fights that last 5 seconds"

I very much enjoyed it, but holy shit was Raiden awful. Actor was awful, writing for the character was beyond awful. If there is a sequel, step one is resolving that.

Raiden and Shang Tsung were both huge drop-offs from the original actors.

If the entire sequence of fights was of the caliber of the scorpion v subz fight I'd like it more. The Jax fights are never fights, just Jax getting whipped twice before full on fan service in his final fight. Between the stage and his abilities, the fan service was neat I guess. Melina was kinda wasted imo, again just more video game fan service but ultimately underutilized. Sub Zero was definitely not underutilized, can't really complain about him at all. All his scenes, even as a human, were pretty tight. Scorpion too, all great great great.

Cole was really weak though. Honestly I wish they'd just cut him out and gave more time to the Sonya crew, maybe even give them Johnny Cage to recruit over Cole cause that ending tease was more like "that's what the plot of this movie should have been!"

Also, no actual tournament? Kinda let down tbh. The tournament scenes and setting of the original is part of what makes it real great imo.

Cole's Arcana is literally Plot Armor

Shang Tsungs people won the tournament 9x in a row, seemingly easily.

Cheating and attacking the earth realm before their fighters all found their arcana and poaching an earth realm fighter, they only scored 1 kill, from shang tsung himself. Not one outworld champion scored a kill. Powered Kano failed to kill Sonya Blade. Mileena failed to kill Sonya Blade. Sub Zero left Jax for dead, but didnt finish the job.

And these were the same earth realm champions Raiden had no faith in.

Other than some horrible writing holes, i still enjoyed the movie.

Well Shang Thing did say they've bent the rules in other tournaments, so who knows how easily winning came to be.

I enjoyed it. Was a good shut your brain off and enjoy the ride type movie and would be on board with a sequel.

That said I learned the hard way 4D theater showings are bullshit. Was too fucking distracting. Thankfully they let you turn the water effects off as I swear it was trying to drown me every time someone bled.
