    Robocop 2: Robocop Returns

Directed by Neill Blomkamp, Written by Ed Neumeier, Michael Miner, & Justin Rhodes
The original definitely had a massive effect on me as a kid. I loved it then and it remains a classic in the end of 20th Century sci-fi catalog, with real meaning under the surface. Hopefully that is something we can get closer to in making of a sequel. That is my goal here. What I connected to as a kid has evolved over time. At first, the consumerism, materialism and Reaganomics, that ’80s theme of America on steroids, came through most strongly. But As I’ve gotten older, the part that really resonated with me is identity, and the search for identity.

As long as the human component is there, a good story can work in any time period, it’s not locked into a specific place in history. What’s so cool about RoboCop is that like good Westerns, sci-fi films and dramas, the human connection is really important to a story well told. What draws me now is someone searching for their lost identity, taken away at the hands of people who are benefiting from it, and seeing his memory jogged by events. That is most captivating. The other thing I am excited by is the chance to work again with Justin Rhodes. He has added elements that are pretty awesome, to a sequel that was set in the world of Verhoeven. This is a movie I would love to watch.

Ugh, ditch the PG-13 garbage first and then we'll talk. The reboot was passable at best. Behind the original sequel, but better than that abortion called Robocop 3.

I only saw parts of the reboot, but I enjoyed robocops aesthetics and acting from what I saw. Maybe I should give it a real watch.

So this is a sequel to the original movie and ignoring the sequels and reboot? I could be on board with that.

Updated visuals were nice and was a pretty great cast. Characters were probably better done than previous and explored socio/political issues but yeah PG-13 really held it back (much like it held back Terminator Genisys though that had ahem other flaws as well) . I mean I'm pretty sure they bleeped half of what Samuel L. Jackson said and zero rapists got shot in the dick

I liked how his visor would flip up when he wasn't fighting so you could see the actors face. We don't need anymore of this failed reboot though.

I'm actually not a fan of the visor flipping up, because it's part of a trend in Hollywood based on this study about how the audience reacts poorly when they can't see the actor's face. It's why all the Marvel heroes are constantly fighting unmasked or taking their masks/helmets off mid-battle.

As someone with significant hearing loss (80% in the right ear, 30% in the left) I appreciate this trend because I can lip read when I can't hear. It's also definitely easier for viewers to read emotion from facial cues than it is relying on dialogue alone.

This is why I loved the Judge Dredd reboot. It was just the actor acting.

Neill Blomkamp no longer attached to the movie.

    Why even bother then??
