Ok, so eating a fruit lets you pick up and move a full grown tree, but what if you move that tree to the very edge of an area? Like, trees need 1 square around them to grow, but if you move a full grown one to the very edge of a ledge, will it die/not produce fruit?

In my experience, trees need more than one space around them to grow but not to bear fruit. I tried planting orchards every other spot and only the ones on the edge grow.

As long as the tree is fully grown, I believe it will bear fruit regardless of where it is placed. But there are many spots, especially along coastlines, where an edge spot exists and you can dig but it wont let you plant anything there.

Apparently, the answer for my specific situation is that the game wont even let you do it. Game just says theres no room for it.

So I’ve burned through about 16K Nook Miles trying to find new fruit via Mystery Tours when I realized that no matter what island you go to, it will always be your native fruit unless it loads 1 specific island out of the apparent 25 that are available.
