There's a heavily traveled 5-6 lane road here in Austin that isn't highway (Chavez for those that know the area) and there is basically no median except a thing 1 foot wide strip of concrete. A few days ago lo and behold someone is putting along on one of these to cross the traffic and realized half way through that traffic was oncoming from both sides. He had to have our side completely stop so we didn't hit him then had to pick up the scooter and balance himself on the 1 foot wide median while holding it in such a way that it didn't hit an incoming car.
So....yes...yes they are that oblivious.
I wanna say it was back in June? But sometime in the early summer a motorist ran over a group of three tourists on these. There were no major injuries but this happened on 14th and Constitution in D.C. One of the heaviest and most congested areas of foot and motor traffic in the city.
People are fucking retarded and think this shit provides them some kind of right of way through anything.
I really need to watch this episode because I have nfc what you guys are talking about and I live right in Boston
I can't even imagine what Boston would look like with those things on the streets. Bad enough navigating thru there as is.
Loved the episode.
I don't know about these scooters outside of this, but reading a couple articles about it since the show last night, it sounds like a nightmare.
I've gotten yelled at by people who almost ran me over with scooters while they were on the sidewalk (which is illegal here; they're supposed to use bike lanes) soooooooo I'm looking forward to this episode lol
I'd imagine a lot of the people on those things lack a driver's license, or have one but are completely inexperienced.

The cycle of electric scooters entering a market that doesn't have any scooters
1) Company hot drops a load of scooters in an area - 500-1000+ scooters - without telling the city about it
2a) Scooters become a blight strewn across sidewalks, in front of businesses, in alleyways, street corners, etc. that businesses and residents get pissed
2b) Riders injure people by riding on sidewalks or injure themselves slamming into cars
3) City regulates industry to address residents' & business owners' concerns.
4a) Neighboring cities get hit with the impacts of 2a and 2b while 3 is being implemented
4b) Regulations not enough. Businesses and residents take matters into their own hands by confiscating scooters, destroying them, etc.
5) Neighboring cities ban scooters, riders don't give a shit and still ride in those areas despite the app displaying big red circles where not to ride
6) LAWSUITS (http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/l...101-story.html)
There was only 1 yesterday, now theres 4!!
Nuke 'em from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.
I felt so bad for kenny
