people always use this librul coastal elites domination argument seemingly ignorant that Texas is the clear #2 in population, that Florida has surged ahead of New York, and that unlike New York both their populations are growing. and also that the other states in the 10 million+ club are the liberal coastal bastions of Illinois, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia, North Carolina, and Michigan.

I can't speak for the left but I mostly like the idea that every vote counts as much as every other vote and the person that wins the most votes should win an election. right now the votes of a Republican in California or a Democrat in Texas are totally valueless in presidential elections. the electoral college system effectively disenfranchises the minority vote in every partisan state and ensures only the votes in the battlegrounds matter. anything beats being ruled by Iowans.

Why even have states or have the system we have in that case then? Wevd just be a large country ruled by majority rule on every issue. Your way would just disenfranchise every small rural county out there, the only votes that 'matter' would be cityfolk where all the population is.
