Get rid of McCarthy and I think you end up with an offense that struggles even more until the new coach can get up to speed. McCarthy had it easy getting the team up to speed under Rodgers while Favre was on his way out, Rodgers has 5 years now on his contract so I would look for a new coach in 2-3 years - especially if they can't make things happen in January (or even get there). Personally I think they should have left Rodgers contract as-is and then I'd agree with a new coach after this season. Rodgers is going to slow down and I don't think he'll have the longevity of Brady/Brees, he counts on his legs more than them and will just start throwing even more balls away.
If they can fix the defense and keep a healthy o-line they can be competitive, not this year though...
Rodgers big chance of more Superbowls was to get out of Green Bay and I can guarantee you that was going through his head last night, as he was getting pummeled. I can’t rememebr how many years were left on his contract , before he was extended though (1?).
There is no way that McCarthy lasts 2-3 years. The only shot he has is if they don’t think they can land Harbaugh + they decide to keep him for 1 more year and he at least makes the SuperBowl.
Why is nobody blaming Rodgers? He has been playing on one leg all season.
I don't blame Rodgers that much because I don't put him on the same pedestal so many others do. He's a system guy playing in a mediocre system. Remember what happened when Flynn was thrown into a great GB system a few years ago? Dude looked like he was going to be the next HoF QB only to lose a starting position to a rookie and fade into an early retirement... Rodgers is incredibly accurate, doesn't take risks, and can use his legs when he needs too. That works in the system that McCarthy built, but unlike someone like Bellichick, McCarthy wasn't able to keep the same momentum going. Probably spurred by bad draft picks and poor decisions from the management.
We'll see what happens though, because if they can't limp into the playoffs I'm sure McCarthy is out. My personal prediction is that with a new coach the Packers are lucky to eek out wildcard spots, and I don't think Rodgers will ever see another SB. If they can fix the system and get some good players in (hard with Rodgers eating up all the cap), then I could see them getting back into shape in a year or two.
Btw, the Patriots have the same record as the Chargers and BEARS. LOL
