I'm going to guess that i'm just uninformed about this, but what else are they doing during this time? If the government is shut down, why is there anything else going on in congress/WH besides getting things back open? Why are they not locked in a fucking room and not allowed to come out until something is done? I just don't understand how government shutdowns can last longer than a week.

I would say the President has other things to do, but you know his ass isn't doing shit but watching TV and being a little bitch. He isn't doing security meetings, he isn't reading reports, he is watching fucking fox news and jerking it to the opinion anchors.

Next week i'm being told I need to call XYZ to move projects and vendor meets (Some of which have been in place for over a year) because of this shit.

Republicans aren't interested in fixing the shutdown because they can't oppose Trump and his wall promise.

The cycle goes like this:
* Very few Republicans can win a primary without Trump's support, because his "base" is most Republicans and that's who votes in the Republican primary
* Trump has proven himself willing to attack Republicans for perceived betrayal (and sometimes for nothing)
* We need a supermajority in the House and Senate (2/3) to override a veto.
* The House is up for reelection every 2 years, so every one of them is going to be up for reelection in Trump's reelection year, when Trump supporters will show up for the Republican primary in even higher numbers.
* Ex-House members go on to lucrative lobbying gigs where they trade connections/influence obtained through their previous political affiliation for cash, which means that they have to keep fairly strong party credentials even in their last term.

In short, if it is something that Trump has indicated he actually cares about (like the wall but unlike the various times they have broken with him) then we are going to get 0 Republican votes from people who aren't leaving office by dying.

We either need a bunch of Republican Congressmen to contract Ebola and start voting morally before they die or we need a Democratic supermajority (that we don't have). TBF I think the most likely outcome is that Chuck and Nancy only waste an extra billy or two on the wall (2.5bil?) and the government reopens.

I think we'll see a Veto override happen. If Trump keeps on doing stupid shit that starts costing their base (Which I imagine we'll see in between now and the 2020 election) we'll see it happen.
