Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent (Android/iOS) - F2P Single-Play RPG - 2020
Prequel
Square Enix announced today a new Octopath Traveler game, titled Octopath Traveler Tairiku no Hasha, which could be translated to “The Champions of the Continent”. The game will be a free-to-play single-player RPG for iOS and Android and will include micro-transactions.
Octopath Traveler Tairiku no Hasha‘s story will be set several years before the events depicted in the original game on Nintendo Switch.
While Square Enix didn’t reveal much for now, Octopath Traveler Tairiku no Hasha will use the same HD-2D graphics as Octopath Traveler on Switch, and seems to be pretty close to the original game. The battle system, the best aspect of the original game, with its weaknesses system and Exaltation Points (Boost Points in Japanese) system, is intact as well. The main difference is that the player’s party in Octopath Traveler Tairiku no Hasha can include up to 8 characters.
The iOS and Android JRPG managed to top 500,000 per-registered accounts and to celebrate, a new video showcasing the BGM theme of “The Playwright” Arguste (one of the antagonists) was released earlier this week. Yasunori Nishiki, who worked on the original game’s OST, is also handling the OST of Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent.
Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent was first announced in March 2019. Back then, Square Enix and Octopath developing studio Acquire stated this is the game to play while you wait for a new Octopath console entry, which is also in development. They stressed out how it’s an actual “single player RPG” — despite being on mobile — with an actual ending and how it takes around 60 hours to complete.
I downloaded it because I heard it was pretty similar to Another Eden, but I have no idea how the gacha compares. Seems like they both use the .5 star type system, where you could get a 4 star character that is upgrade-able to 5 star, but possibly grindy to do so.
I haven't really played much yet, been rerolling to try and get some good stuff to start with.
I rerolled to get Viola and Lynette, but only casually playing atm.
GF wants to play but her phone can't handle it, anyone got any emulators working for it? So far most seem to crash randomly just while loading up the game/opening/etc.
I find this to be the best way to describe the game besides being an Another Eden clone. It's not very fun to play from the few hours I've put into it.
I've laughed at a couple bits in Octopath so far. But I'm mostly playing more casually. I don't even know if there are any good fights released, I'm just doing dailies and occasionally some more quests when I feel like it and pulling.
