There have already been whispers of that if I remember correctly

I fucking hate Sony so much. But if this leads to Bloodborne PC, i may cave.
so Epic added a direct purchase option for V-bucks on mobile, getting around Apple's 30% cut and selling at a discount
Apple delists Fortnite
Epic sues Apple

1. It'll be fun to watch them fight each other.
2. Whoever wins (settles), we probably lose.
3. When did Qal come back?!
Epic's lawsuit is interesting from a legal standpoint. Their argument is that Apple cannot monopolize their own devices. If they were to prevail, it could also lead to arguments that Nintendo/Microsoft/Sony cannot monopolize their game consoles (since when you think about it, its the same thing). PC/Mac are different because you don't have to go through a specific storefront for all your programs.

Epic Games will debut a short event titled Nineteen Eighty-Fortnite in Fortnite’s Party Royale mode on Thursday at 4 p.m. EDT — a short that appears to be both a response to Apple’s removal of Fortnite from the App Store and a parody of Apple’s iconic 1984 TV commercial that introduced the world to the Macintosh
I don't enjoy Fortnite, but dangit if that ain't the best passive aggressive corporate bitchslap I've seen in a long time.
I don't play Fortnite but Epic is sure trying to throw their dick around with this move. I bet they lose because the apple and google store fee will be equivalent to a service charge like fee on using their platform.
So what is epic going to do to stop Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony's monopoly since their consoles only have/allow their respective storefronts only?
So what's the argument for video game consoles?
This is the same nonsense we were going thru with the EGS vs Steam, but for platforms that are explicitly a closed ecosystem there's no leg to stand on for Epic. You want to be on their platform you have to agree to their rules.
No I get that, but is there any actual legal grounds for Epic to say that it shouldn't be?
You could argue that consoles are different in that they are really just PCs with their own ecosystems nowadays, and are also competing against the countless marketplaces available for PC/mac/linux/whatever in addition to each other.
Mobile is really just apple and google stores.
Fuck them dont care. Epic probably won't win but also let more people know apple delists apps cause they aren't given 30% of the cut. Fuck emmmm

I haven’t read the complaint, but I’d imagine there’s some grounds given how huge Apple is, and what they’re doing could be predatory. I think the Microsoft/Netscape case would be the closest parallel?
To me, I would think the Spotify to be a better case to challenge apple’s antitrust, since Apple directly competes with Spotify, in addition to benefiting from Spotify’s successes (if they use the in-app payment method).
Just to be clear, this is basically the same as if epic tried to bypass the psn store or nintendo store or whatever to sell skins and shit directly instead of through the previously mentioned stores? I don’t really see how that’s different from me walking into a Home Depot and setting up my booth to sell tools directly for a cheaper price, of course people are gonna shut that down.
I agree 30% is a big cut for any vendor but it’s all digital so I think it makes sense simply based on volume?
