https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/sp...er-2021-08-01/Krystsina Tsimanouskaya, who was due to compete in the women's 200 metres on Monday, told Reuters she had sought the protection of Japanese police at Tokyo's Haneda airport so she would not have to board the flight.
Says she is expected to request asylum from Germany or Austria tomorrow.
Unrelatedly, for those who weren't watching track and field this morning, two men were tied for the high jump and pretty much said, "nah, we're good" to a tie breaker. The commentators even said it was unprecedented that they didn't have a jump off.

Because they were told they could both receive Gold.
Should have done the same for golf instead of a playoff. I see nothing wrong with awarding 7 bronze medals.
I don't believe an official presented it as an option, one of em asked. I think that's what it looked like at the time, I might be mistaken.

Biles won bronze on the beam. Guess it was a lowkey good thing she pulled out of the other events and let the team mates pick up the slack lol, even though a podium win is great no matter what color your medal is. She's now tied for amount of medals won by a US gymnast.

She could turn this whole negative experience around by partnering up with some breakfast food company and come out with a limited edition version of a cereal called, "Twisties"!

QUAN Hongchan won the women's 10m platform diving Gold with two perfect dives in the finals. (they said that's never happened before) Almost had a third. O.o One judge scored a dive a 9.5.
Also, I am now watching live what I have waited years to see. Karate in the Olympics!

The karate was more interesting than taekwondo was... and that's sad.
So incredibly weird to watch how washed out the sport has become now.
I don't see kata sticking around in the future though.

What's sad is they don't show it on TV or even mention it.. like.. at all.
