I could have bought an 11 pull and have 1000 gems left over, but all I got was this silly title.

Well, that's exactly who I would have imagined would take over the role from Sam Elliott.

(No, I haven't read the books, so I have no idea if this is more appropriate.)

An adaptation of Philip Pullman's acclaimed trilogy HIS DARK MATERIALS, is considered a modern masterpiece of imaginative fiction. The first series follows Lyra, a seemingly ordinary but brave young woman from another world. Lyra's search for a kidnapped friend uncovers a sinister plot involving stolen children, and becomes a quest to understand a mysterious phenomenon called Dust. As she journeys through the worlds, including our own, Lyra meets a determined and courageous boy called Will. Together they encounter extraordinary beings and dangerous secrets, with the fate of both the living - and the dead - in their hands.

Agreed. Almost forgot about it because it's not on Sundays, but I must have set a recording a while back.

Is this season supposed to just cover the first book, or what?

I never read the books, so have no idea what I was getting into, but it kept my attention for an hour. I am curious where it goes - I plan on deliberately staying clueless at this point.

Read the books a long time ago, so a lot of it seemed vaguely familiar, but the lady and I definitely enjoyed the first episode.

This is really good. Episode 2 was well done also.

It’s a bit Doctor Who-ish for me, as in it caters for children rather than adults. It’s okay so far but I hope it gets a bit meatier (haven’t read the books).

    Spoiler: show
The fight between the daemons was the best dramatic bit so far.

Did I miss something in regards to Lyra’s escape at the end? - the daemon said the lift had been left open but then we see them outside, presumably they went out the window like the monkey daemon did, but they didn’t show it?

The kid playing Roger is it a bit too much like one of the Narnia kids, I think it’s the teeth lol

I think the books are YA so makes sense it caters more towards kids.

    Defintiney needs more exposure.

    Love the pacing also.

Wife and I watched a few episodes over the long weekend. It's a fun show, I think. Yes, the books are YA so it's not a gritty show. My wife read all the books and said the pacing is actually faster in the show. Not sure if that's good or bad.

    Spoiler: show
For example, she said you didn't find out that Lyra was Ms. Coulter's daughter for a while even after the reveal that Asriel was her dad.

So, next week is the season finale and my overall thought about this through 7 episodes is that it's good that they were able to include things that obviously they couldn't for a feature film, but I don't know that they've put out there so far has warranted 7 episodes. There's been at least one episode too many, maybe two.

The show isn't bad, and I'll keep watching, but it's just sort of "ok".

Do you feel that way, because it's mostly just the same as the movie? I think I've only watched like 2 eps, because of that reason. Wasn't sure if it's worth continuing or not.

It's weird because I didn't mind it at all for the first few episodes. Probably after the 5th episode or so was when I stopped to think that they hadn't really added much that I felt would have been missed if it were cut. There's an entire arc going on that I think is book 2 stuff/would have started in the 2nd movie, but the execution of that doesn't seem right at times.

I haven't seen the movie at all and I enjoy the show. Doesn't feel like 8 episodes is enough as someone who hasn't seen the movies though. I'd like it to have moved a little bit faster and covered more ground.

I'd completely forgotten about this show, but saw a preview earlier today for season 2 coming up in November.

Only 7 episodes this time around.
