    They would have better than better off going The Hobbit route, Have a story but make up a bunch of extra stuff and stretch it out over two extra movies. And in the end kind of somewhat a little have the same end result as the story you started.

    While that's true, both the original sequels were definitely planned ahead using ANH as the basis.
