I think the issue is that "simply drawing magic as it comes" has a wide range of definitions for different levels of OCD and differences in tolerance for the draw system can create a very large power gap. When I first played FFVIII, I basically ignored the Draw system (it doesn't do damage!?!? useless!) and the game was fairly difficult (but not unplayable).

The design flaw imop is twofold:
    1) drawing is boring
    2) junctioning high level magic really really matters, even more than levels

It is normal for character strength to be gated by boredom in a JRPG, but FFVIII is somewhat unique in that it lets you make that trade at almost the beginning of the game.

Not gonna lie, I turned on 3x speed and godmode (instant turns) anytime I wanted to draw spam something and my god it was so painless compared to back in the day.

Ugh i see this thread bumped and realize I want to play this so bad. I wish these rereleases were on mobile cause I want to 3x speed and God mode for a replay on the go.

If you put Quistis in your party in the top spot with god mode on and max speed you can reach max level in like an hour of grinding on island closest to hell. Her blue magic LB does instant kill to everything but bosses, really the only thing that might throw you off is if Malboro gets a turn before you.

Damn I remember those days of grinding. Get all of those damned levels then lose two hours and 10 levels from everyone because I got sniped by a Marlboro.

All that grinding to beat Ultimecia in a couple of turns. Omega at least still needs some strategy even when using god mode.

Does he though? You just have to know his move patterns. I beat him in like 2 tries this time around without godmode.

He was considerably harder when we were all kids with 1999 internet.

With 100 Triple junctioned to SPD-J, and GF abilities SPD+20%, +40%, and Auto-Haste equipped, you can set the game to its slowest battle speed and still beat Omega before he has a turn.
