Final Fantasy 16 is in development. Or, did you mean you want a new FFVII? With the copyrighted names SE just patented, you may still get your wish, but it isn't mine. I don't want Nomura anywhere near a mainline FF after hearing him spooge all over the canvas of Kingdom Hearts with this "darkness here and darkness there" convoluted drivel.

I mean it worked out well so far.

You don't have to reinvent the wheel to make things fresh and new, and most of all Nomura can't write for shit so whatever he's subverting too is just gonna be worse than the original. Like they could just follow the original story but with more depth/detail to things that weren't explained or done very well or mix things up.

You figure the best parts of the remake were the parts that were more or less faithful to the original and the worst were the padded out parts that added nothing (which is unfortunately most of the game), this is why we can't have nice things.

But part of the reason we feel they added nothing is because we knew where the story is heading. Best example is the section with Jessie, Biggs, and Wedge. Going to learn about Jessie's past and motivations to join Avalanche felt like a waste and you don't get attached to her because there was an expectation that she was going to die.

Should have saved Jessie and killed one of the other two imo. Would also have setup another love interest, maybe even another party member, down the line.

Y'all bumping this thread really just makes me want a PC version so I can play with all the pretty graphics. Maybe they'll even do ray tracing or dlss

That's kinda my point. Now that they've shown the remake can deviate from the original material, sections like that can actually be impactful.

It was character development that also made you care more for the character when she died lol. Just cause you're already spoiled on the story doesn't mean it was pointless

Stretching Midgar out into a whole game meant a lot of filler, they've got a lot more material to work with going forward.
