2020 Democratic Primary Clown Car Special II: 365 Days of Busing

Also, cities are very very dense. I find it easier to imagine our cities are densely populated than rural America is just filled to the brim...even though it's all open, empty space lol.

The issue of bussing children is huge even in cities. For example I taught in Phoenix AZ. High density zone. And transportation was a major issue even here. Yeah, there’s tons of issues with public education but if you can’t rven get the kids to school on time reliably (or to school at all) then the rest of the issues are literally mute points.

We presented this to our district because they promised families that students would be on time every day with this new bussing arrangement they made in my final year but there were handfuls of students late by 15-30 mins every day.

Multiply being late 30 minutes a day by 200 calendar school days. Guess what you’re now missing more school hours than allowed by truancy police in a grade year.

Do you really have no idea what this "busing" conversation is about?

Busing is an issue for many locations (especially rural). And rural locations (which has a variety of definitions it appears) envelope a large amount of schools. Vastly more than we should be willing to regard as “low on the totem pole.”

And yes I read the article and understand. You know that more and more districts are moving in this “school choice” direction right? This is to combat the popularity of charter and private schooling.

It’s not unfair to me to ask if they’re in education because being aware of the situation above isn’t typical for people that aren’t in public ed.

I think you’re stuck on the should or shouldn’t part and have yet to elevate yourself to the what does this look like in practice and feasibly reality. I could be wrong on that but clearly we’re operated on different wave lengths here.

I don't think schools should just ignore the question of race in their schools cause administration is so incompetent that they cant coordinate a bunch of school buses arriving to school 20min before classes start.

At the same time I dont think well find the solution to racism in education from those administrators as well, so /shrug

Ok so the latest Chapo solo ep

    Spoiler: show
stay with me, STAY WITH ME

did a good job explaining the history of the US political system from the constitution forward and how it created the de facto two-party system, and how "negotiation" and finding middle ground (both inter and intra-party) used to be an important feature in US politics but it no longer is because the parties are now, finally (over the past 25ish years) ideologically coherent in a way they weren't for the rest of history. Then it discussed how that breaks down the checks and balances of the constitution and how legislation and progress are nearly impossible in the current system, and the only way to break this is with militant labor actions

    Spoiler: show
I'm almost done keep your eyeballs in your heads

but then said that like any other presidential candidate Bernie will fail to bring sweeping change because of how broken the political system is now.

    Which got me thinking:

If militant labor action is necessary for sweeping change

and Bernie is pretty clearly the only candidate with inklings in this direction

Why...wouldn't Bernie call for said actions as president to try to break the political stalemate? Banging the drum about Republicans and corporate Dems working for the 1% and stopping, I dunno, Medicare 4 All or a GND or whatever, call for a general strike or targeted sector strikes to make the wealthy pressure the politicians to serve the interests of the workers?

I have no idea how effective such a strategy would be (whether he could get mass strikes going or what the response to them would be) but it's a tactic that makes "Bernie's revolution" theory of change real in a way I hadn't considered before, and...are we stuck in a morass via any other path?

Being the opposite of Joe Biden on everything makes for a great candidate it turns out.

Puts her in 3rd for Q2 fundraising despite not holding any fundraisers, more than Bernie which is genuinely shocking.

If you're a big money person and the only people catering to you are Biden and Buttigieg, you fill 'em both up with $2800.

Can only tap that well once though.

I want one but I don't wear hats and if I was going to wear a hat I'd wear my Matlab hat so I'm at a bit of a crossroads

Someone on Twitter commented this, and the journalist responded asking for where they got their numbers cause they were emailed by everyone listed, sans Yang. Seems like he needs better staff cause hes leaving free publicity on the table.
