    Ryzen 3000 Series Launch Day

NDAs lift today around mid day.
There's a few early leaks out, however AMD made partners gimp early compatibility bios and ram is limited to 2133 or 2666 ram max when release boards can handle up to 4200+ so the brazilian leak and the guy on reddit who got an early cpu can't do real benchmarks. I guess reviewers with early production cpus waiting for ndas to drop all got the real bios updates.

    US Pricing -

    3600 - $199 - 6/12 - 3.6 base, 4.2 boost
    3600X - $249 - 6/12 - 3.8 base, 4.4 boost
    3700X - $329 - 8/16 3.6 base, 4.4 boost
    3800X - $399 - 8/16 3.9 base, 4.5 boost
    3900X - $499 - 12/24 3.8 base, 4.6 boost

    NDA over, reviews coming out:

I'm also interested in the 5700 XT with its $400 price. Hopefully reviews place it in the same tier as 2070S/1080Ti, which makes its price quite reasonable for a new card. I'm not sure which CPU to get with it though, split between the 3600X and 3700X. I only really game, so 3600X makes more sense and is cheaper, but I'm already using Ryzen 5 1600, so I wouldn't mind a core increase as well just in case future games utilize them.

The most interesting thing we're going to find out today is the performance gap on 370/470 boards vs the 570s.

This is what im waiting for personally. I feel the CPUs have done an amazing job and the platform continues to be competitive. I'm definitely looking to Ryzen for my next build

The better Ryzen is the better for everyone for competitions sake. This is going to be the first time where I practice self control for a build because I don't think I have anything to gain from a new cpu/mb for my needs. And while the MSI Vega 56 Air Boost has been serving me well, I'd really love a more powerful non reference card that doesn't cost more than my mortgage payment.

5700 and 5700xt are actually competitive.

The 5700 reference beats the 2060 super on performance and they're the same price, the 5700xt is better price and performance is generally ahead of the 2070 super, behind in some games. ( $50-100 cheaper roughly )

It also does very well in some games, eg Apex Legends - the 5700xt beats the 1080 ti ( at 1440p ), and loses to it at 4k.

Definitely a reasonable pickup on either card, and I would assume you'd see typical AMD driver improvements over the life cycle.

Obviously nobody is selling a 1080ti for it, but hey if you're in the market for a new card and don't want to buy a 2080ti then it's worth a look.

I'd guess the shroud/fan designs will clock higher and have better performance as well, so it's actually looking pretty good for AMD.

Looking at my local prices the price difference is even more tilted in AMDs favour, so it's probably worth checking out your regional pricing to see which way it goes.

Guru3d review on the 5700+XT looks better than the previous benchmarks I'd seen:

little disappointed it appears the 3000 series still doesn't match year-old Intel hardware in gaming performance but at least the gap is closed and it leaps ahead for multicore performance. also surprised to see heat is such a limiting factor when it comes to OCing and peak power consumption is so high. nice future proofing with PCIe 4 and its multicore performance makes it the only get if you're an editor of videos and the like but as nothin but a gamer dunno if i can justify it. might just wait for Ice Lake.

Yeah, those temps are pretty high. My 1070 SC2 with ICX cooler is over 10 degrees lower across the board.

I put an R9 290 cooler on the RX 5700 and it maxed at just 67c while making almost no noise, performance was a few fps better as well. This is good news for upcoming AIB models!

    Meet the first partner
    @Radeon
5700. This Visiontek card comes compliments of a dead r9 390 that was sent to me by a viewer, bolts up almost perfectly. 3 heat pipes and 2 dinky fans and it stays at 65c under load and is quiet! More testing required but needless to say VIDEO SOON!

The reference blower is 2% off the 2070 super for 20% less money, if the partner boards don't add more than $50 to the price, or even if they do it'll likely exceed 2070 super performance for less money, and temps seem absolutely fine.
The anti-lag also has a 10ms advantage on input lag over nvidia - which is actually a really tempting proposition if you take competitive FPS games too seriously.

I think I will be waiting for the 16-core behemoth to drop in a few months.

    Do I need it? No.

Do I want it?..... fuck yes I do.

Finally the time has come to build a successor to my (now pretty aged) gaming PC :3 Haven't decided between the 3600(X) and 3700X yet, but they all look very promising.

As for the 5700(XT), hooray for AMD cards that can match nVidia and don't cost a fortune. Just waiting for custom cooler models, those reference radial fan designs are... meh...

Same, though I bought a GTX 1080 when they came out and it's still fine. I ended up ordering a 3700X Sunday morning after reviews confirmed it was as-expected (not sure what supply will be like, and Newegg did sell out of them later in the day). So far though, just the CPU.

I really disagree with that take.
We're on early bios without scheduler optimisations from microsoft.
We're also seeing several reviewers using incorrect BIOS/chipset drivers ( anandtech ).

We're seeing the 3600 ( $199 ) which includes a cooler beating the 9600k ( $255 ) which does not include a cooler. ( Although to be fair, motherboard price increases on X570 now eliminate that advantage - you can still go x470/b450 and lose no performance - you're just not getting PCIE4 )

It beats it over a good multi game benchmark suite although some titles still favour intel and it smashes it in multithreaded where it even beats an i7 8700k. ( $365 ).

    At 1440p and 2160k you're GPU limited and the 3600 will deliver the same FPS as a 9900k ( $500+ ) in 4k titles.

I'm sure all the people with a 9900k and a 2080ti are super excited they're getting a few more fps at 720p and 1080......

Also - 3900x seems to beat the 9900k when paired with AMD GPUs, but be behind with nvidia GPUs.

eg. 3900x beats the 9900k if you use a Radeon VII or 5700XT, but behind when using a 2070/2080ti etc.

There should be some good videos coming out this week on performance/temp with b450 and x570 boards so we can see how well equipped they are.

maybe scheduler optimisations will bring the FPS you want to see, but the vast majority of early gaming benchmarks i'm seeing show the 9900K consistently outperforming the 3900X and the 9700K consistently outperforming the 3700X (and both not inconsistently losing to an 8700K), honestly haven't looked into 3600 v 9600 as i5s are not so much my jam. know everyone's needs are different but i need gaming performance above all else + rock a 1080ti that i'm not about to ditch for an AMD GPU in the hopes of juicing up a couple more FPS, as such the higher end Ryzen CPUs losing out to, or under the most favorable conditions only matching, a year-old Intel line in gaming workloads and single-core performance is a little disappointing. hell like i said i might still get one, but if Intel does deliver with Ice/Comet Lake and open up a double-digit performance gap again by the end of the year not sure i could justify it. in wait and see mode.

tldr: no problem running 3000 series cpus on b350 boards, very small performance penalty vs x570.

That makes my hesitation on upgrading almost null and void.

    Ok but hear me out

Ryzen doesnt have the known backdoors on the chips themselves that let the NSA and china spy on you with Intel
