I swear I'm the only person whose first experience with anime wasn't Akira. For me, it was Vampire Hunter D, Dominion Tank Police, and Project A-Ko that got me hooked on anime.

Akira wasn't my first, but I definitely watched it early on.

I believe Lodoss War or Ninja Scroll was my first.

The Faye gave everything physical form i.e. Sin, Jecht, Tidus, summons etc. They manifested their dreams with the combined power/energy of the millions of dead people and souls that never moved on.

Back in the day Akira was all anyone could talk about. That shit was fucking amazing.


Looking back, that shit made less than zero sense.

The problem with Akira is it was a super condensed movie of a manga that was several years in and wasn't even finished when it came out. It was never gonna make sense.

Then you have FLCL where chick is legit pulling a guitar out of her head, and you just give up on the plot and enjoy the anime for it being completely out of the norm and having fun action scenes.

Some old anime had good plot, though. My all-time favorite is Bubble Gum Crisis. Was so awesome when they remade it.


I am kinda hoping someday they'll do another remake of that.

There's a reason no one talks about it anymore rather than to try and point out you are OG for watching it back in the day.

akira is still talked about consistently are you daft, anytime anyone talks about animation in general akira comes up for what it did with it's use of frames etc. also it was re-released in 2020 and shown in IMAX theaters.

However, this is all because the quality of it's animation, the story in the movie obliterated what little sense the manga had attempted to make.
