Not saying that I, as a fan, am not incensed at the idea that we might have no Spider-Man in the MCU going forward, but there was absolutely no reason for Sony to agree to do anything Disney wanted, they literally hold every card when it comes to the character. Disney wants to get people angry because it's the only play they have.

That's what Fox thought with Fantastic 4, and Marvel helped kill interest in the franchise by ending the comic series, so that coupled with shitty movies lead to that movie franchise's death.

Terrible/bad movies can be entertaining. It was entertaining, but it wasn't a good movie.

Marvel was willing to eat some terrible X-Men comics and a cancellation of the FF, can the same be said of their consistently most popular character? Spider-Man even more than Captain America is the symbol of Marvel. It would also take many, many years to kill off interest in Spider-Man enough to make fans not want to see his movies (Fantastic Four didn't have a strong movie history to begin with) and when you're working on a master plan like the MCU, you don't have those years to work with.
