Today, Koei Tecmo America is excited to reveal Fairy Tail, a brand-new magical JRPG in development by GUST Studios, based on Hiro Mashima’s best-selling Japanese manga of the same name. This enchanting new title marks the first time a Fairy Tail game will launch on major consoles in the West, allowing series fans and newcomers alike to join in and experience the beloved narrative that has captivated people from around the globe for over a decade.

Demons, dark wizards, dragons, and cats – players will find it all as they start your journey in the land of Fiore. In Fairy Tail, wizards play through the adventures of Natsu Dragneel and Lucy Heartfilia, as well as other eccentric members of the Fairy Tail mage guild, on a fun-filled and thrilling quest. GUST Studios is creating the game under the supervision of author Hiro Mashima, promising a faithful recreation for the Fairy Tail world and its unusual inhabitants; including everything from magic to its iconic characters.

While more information about the game’s release will be revealed next week at Tokyo Game Show 2019, Koei Tecmo America released a thrilling new trailer showcasing the fiery and intense magical battles players can experience when they join the Fairy Tail guild. Fairy Tail will be available in 2020 on Nintendo SwitchTM, PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, and Windows PC via Steam.

New Details

Following a captivating stage show reveal at the 2019 Tokyo Game Show (TGS 2019), Koei Tecmo America and developer GUST Studios are excited to deliver further details for their upcoming, highly-anticipated magical JRPG, Fairy Tail.

Fairy Tail, based on Hiro Mashima’s best-selling manga and anime series of the same name, follows the spell-binding plot from “The Grand Magic Games” story arc - enabling gamers to re-live, or experience for the first time, the exciting episodes of this fan-favorite storyline. Not only will they be able to experience stories previously told in the manga and anime, but they will even be able to enjoy never before seen story and quest elements.

Throughout their journey, players will be able to form a party from a selection of over ten iconic characters, including: the fire dragon slayer, Natsu Dragneel; the celestial mage, Lucy Heartfilia; the ice-make mage, Gray Fullbuster; the fairy queen ‘Titania’, Erza Scarlet; and the young sky dragon slayer, Wendy Marvell. With a wealth of guild members to recruit to their party, players can form their own dream team – even including an unlikely group of allies for their own unique adventure.

The fiery and intense magical battles from the series are breathtakingly brought to life in Fairy Tail’s environment; with a diverse range of magic available for the extraordinary characters to wield. Renowned moves from the series light up the screen, with some characters such as Natsu being able to take advantage of mode changes – like utilizing the eye-popping Lightning Fire Dragon Mode. In addition, some guild members will be available to support in battle; including the Fairy Tail Guild Master, Makarov Dreyar, who can be called in to provide powerful aid on the battlefield.

In Fairy Tail, completing battles and quests will not only level up party members, it will lead to character bonding scenarios, provide options to upgrade the guild, and eventually raise the ‘Guild Rank’ – enabling players to take on more challenging missions in their quest to become the greatest guild in Fiore.

It’s so exciting to develop the first Fairy Tail video game to ever hit PlayStation 4. We’re working on it under the supervision of the brilliant Mashima-san, the creator of the popular anime and manga series, to deliver a truly spectacular experience that captures both the quirkiness and intensity of the characters — from Fairy Tail members like the fiery Natsu Dragneel to all of the demons, dark wizards and cats (Happy rules!) that help make the series so beloved by fans across the globe.

One of the features that truly excites me, though, is the fact that with the help of Mashima-san, we’ve actually laid out an amazing 3D model of Fairy Tail’s iconic city, Magnolia, a city that you’ll be able to explore on virtual-foot, discovering everything from the Fairy Tail Guild to Lucy’s house to special Easter eggs like Nikora’s hidden candy.

Behind the scenes, game designers worked for six months to create every brick, bridge, and building you’ll be able to explore in the game. We looked at any and all reference material we could find on the town in order to lay it out as accurately as possible. We read the comics, we extracted scenes from the anime, consulted the anime setting materials, and we were even able to find reference data from older illustrations to help us along the way. From there, we laid everything out in 3D, then went back to Mashima-san, and he was able to give us further advice to help sculpt the final setting. In the end, we created a final design which works for an RPG, while at the same time integrating functionality and the appropriate visuals – including all of the symbolic buildings and landmarks you’re looking for – in a dynamic way that truly pops off screen. After months and months of hard work, we were eventually able to flip the image we had in our minds into the breathtaking and immersive town you’ll now be able to experience in our unique RPG.

I still remember the overwhelming feelings I had as a Fairy Tail fan the first time I was able to run around Magnolia, and I’m convinced fans will feel the same as they explore the vibrant town and talk to various characters to discover everything there is to know about the Fairy Tail guild. In the Fairy Tail guild you’ll be able to upgrade the facilities like the shop and laboratory, then head to Lucy’s house to change costumes or read about various adventures in her numerous picture books. But that’s not all, as depending on how things play out in town, you might even find yourself in a fiery fight on the streets of Magnolia!

Delayed to June 26th

Koei Tecmo America and developer GUST Studios announced today that their upcoming magical JRPG, Fairy Tail, will now be released in North America on June 26, 2020 for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, and on June 25, 2020 for Windows PC via Steam. The change of date is due to the developer’s desire to further enhance the game for a more enriching Fairy Tail experience.

Producer Keisuke Kikuchi commented: “I am truly sorry for Fairy Tail’s delay, and the inconvenience caused to our fans, partners, and stakeholders who are looking forward to this title. Please allow us to take further time to polish the game to ensure it is as high quality as possible, so we can offer you a truly immersive experience. We will be working hard to enhance the magic effects, event scene effects, improving the game balance, and more! We will talk about the improvements in more detail in the coming months. This delay will allow us to ensure we provide you a much more satisfying game. Thank you for your understanding.”

Fairy Tail is currently in development for the Nintendo Switch™, the PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, and Windows PC via Steam, and is available now for pre-order through select retailers.

Koei Tecmo America and developer Gust Studios announced two huge additions to their upcoming magical JRPG, Fairy Tail, boosting the roster to 16 playable characters with the inclusion of Gildarts — “the strongest man in the Fairy Tail guild”— while also revealing the first details on the game’s Eclipse story arc. Fairy Tail is set to be released in North America on June 26, 2020 for the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 computer entertainment system, and on June 25, 2020 for Windows PC via Steam.

One of the most powerful additions to the Fairy Tail roster to date, Gildarts is an S-Class Mage who uses “Crush” magic to reduce anything he touches to rubble. Gildarts joins the fight in support of Natsu and other party members, using his overwhelming strength to help swing the odds in the guild’s favor. Throughout the adventure, fans will be able to put together their own dream team of Fairy Tail members and their rivals, including everyone from Gildarts to Erza, Gray, and Gajeel. The more characters continue to fight together in the same party, their bonds will gradually strengthen, and as their friendship level increases, special conversations called “Bond Dialogue” will play out, including original dialogue written specifically for the Fairy Tail game.

In addition, the first details of the game’s new Eclipse arc have also been revealed. This popular storyline revolves around “Project Eclipse,” an experiment that opens up a gate to the past, unleashing Dragons that lived over 400 years ago into the present timeline. Can Lucy and friends survive a fight against the great dragon Zirconis?
