I said I was wrong about 2-3 months, but I literally linked the wiki history page.
Final Fantasy XI, Final Fantasy XIV, and PlayOnline servers were shut down from March 11th until March 25th.

Dude, as a heavy drug user, I would presume you have first hand experience of forced withdrawl from an addiction.
Maybe not even an addiction, just something a lot of people would do to fill their days, and all of a sudden that was taken away. For people who played 8+++ hours a day (lol rookie numbers), thats 33% or more of a day that they had to find something else to do with their time. Once they found these other things, potentially more productive things, they realized they didnt want to play XI anymore.
i slept and prepared to return
I think, allah forgive me, I played LoL with some friends
I was always in a weird place with my FFXI addiction. When I was playing (which was primarily as a broke college student or underpaid new graduate) I couldn't get enough and would be on every possible second that I could. When I was too poor to pay for my sub, well, that's it, can't play anymore, on to something else. The times when I quit of my own volition were similarly "I'm done now," and just unsubbed and forgot about it.

yall talk about this stuff and i think to myself, fuck i quit this game so many years before all yall
what's your excuse for being a loser then
I more or less quit on Jan 16 2007.
May have done a few assorted king camps or something after that, but maybe my entire LS dumped the game when burning crusade came out.
the game lives rent free in my head
I still compulsively read threads on ffxiah and look at the new updates
Broke ass window shopper.
Also the idea that “horizon is taking away from retail” is beyond absurd. These cats aint played FFXI anytime in the last year up to a decade and a half for whatever their reasons are (and there is a myriad of very valid reasons). These people logging onto Horizon that dont play retail were not going to get that itch to play retail just because Horizon didn't exist.
I dont look st notifications lol
That's the point. Many of us were able to make the relatively minor sacrifices in life to succeed at XI while in school.
Would we have been able to do that after?
I was desperate to make sure I got my N. Legs before law school just in case. Looking back I realize that it was irrelevant: having everything or not, I would still be at every single camp every single day to make sure no one else ever touched our HNMs. I'd give up everything for the chance to make that sacrifice.
No he doesn't want the private server to succeed because he thinks it will reflect badly on retail, or even impact retail negatively (by drawing away players). Horizon succeeding to a degree Eden and Nasomi and others could not would finally and definitively show that it shows SE made the wrong move by "progressing."
I agree with him on that logic actually. I want the private server to succeed for those exact reasons.
Hopefully this kills retail. That's the point
It wont
I'd be willing to bet that of those 4k players, less than 5% would continue to play on Horizon if there were a 12.95 subscription fee.
Theres a ginormous asterisk next to the perceived success of this private server because it is FREE. Fall guys had ~10 million players when it had its $20 purchase fee to over 50 million players within two weeks of going free to play. Thats dropping just an initial fee. How would that look with a monthly fee?
Unfortunately, I cant find any models of games that went from F2P to P2P.
Draylo if I resub will you help me kill bumba
