Those effects mentioned above come from just obtaining JPs. You also "spend" your JPs to increase some of your traits/Job Abilities effects

Yeah, pretty much lol. And one of the recent updates added another "merit" thing called Exemplar points which can only be obtained after maxing out JPs

Experience points to hit 99.

Limit points to accrue merit points to spend on merits.

Capacity points to accrue Job Points to spend on Job points categories, only obtainable by the job that got the capacity points to spend on that job till you hit master at 2100 total Job points gained.

Examplar points to gain master levels which can only be gained on a job who has hit master level (2100 job points), current cap of master level is 30, every 5 master levels is 1 level added to your set subjob and you get bonus stats. So current cap would mean 99/55. You must gain exemplar points to hit 30 master level on each job to benefit from the increased subjob levels.
