Rumor is that Disney is offering 5 billion for Sony to release Spidey back into Marvel.
Not sure how reliable this source is, but 5 billion is a nice chunk of change. Small price to pay for unfettered use of the new Avengers anchor though.
Oof, I don't know if that's a good move. It's basically accepting a loss on the next 5-7 movies.

Or lack of profit should it break even.
can you really put a price tag on peace of mind? probably, and 5 billion sounds about right
23 or so films netting ~23bil in gross. Yeah, it breaks down roughly to 1bil/film - but not straight profit.
Taking the hit on 5 films vs having to deal with a Sony every few years. That may be worth it to ensure your anchor is there for the next decade. I guess another way to look at it is frontloading the next 5 Avengers films and hoping the side stuff like XMen can perform better than expected to pad the recovery.

The next Spider-Man movie is getting a major jolt.
Jamie Foxx, who played classic Spidey villain Electro in the Andrew Garfield-starring The Amazing Spider-Man 2, is in final talks to reprise the role for the latest Spider-Man installment, starring Tom Holland and being made by Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.
Most of the supporting cast from the previous movies — including Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Jacob Batalon and Tony Revolori — are expected to be on the call sheet when cameras roll in Atlanta this fall. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are producing.
Marvel had no comment.
Story details are being kept under the mask, but having Foxx return is a stunner as it shows a further melding of the previous Spider-Man movies into the current Holland series, which is the first one that has Marvel running point on production.
Uh. What?

Why? Pretty sure no one has been clamoring for more Jamie Foxx as Electro

I too, like to pretend ASM2 never happened. Nothing against Jamie Foxx, but the way his character was written (well, that entire movie's script actually) was god awful. That said it's too early to bring back that character. Throw someone else in there that hasn't been used in any of the live action films (or I guess the recent game) in some time?Marvel had no comment.
This is a bad idea.
Here I was looking forward to the MCU take on Green Goblin or Doc Ock. All the big heroes have only been getting three movies to themselves, so I guess we'll just have to deal with Sony's shitty take on anymore villains going forward. Venom was pretty mediocre, and I'm sure their take on Carnage won't be anything special. Such wasted potential.
Jamie's a great actor and with the right script I think he'll do fine. I just wanted a more iconic Spidey villain to be in this movie.
