    employers favour men because there is a massive efficiency loss, and loss of the employees value as a whole, when you take maternity leave. and statistically women will take maternity leave significantly more often than men

    but for real, there is a tremendous amount of money rehiring, retraining, rewatever surrounding employees that take a year off. its the same reason you hear about employers firing people with major health problems. albeit they give other reasons for the firing, 'cause of the law and shit, but regardless people with cancer get fired all the damned time.

    so there ya go. math tells you that pregnancy and cancer are the same thing

    What are these roles that are of lesser importance that cause the company to be less affected by sudden mat leave?

    Additionally, should someone who works in a lesser role that has less impact to the company if they go on any leave be paid the same amount as someone whos role is crucial and their going on leave would have a greater impact?
