    Baby regressing?

So baby is now 5 months old and it starting to get hell, before he would sleep all nights and all, but lately he just refuse to sleep.

If he sleeps more then 2h straight at night it’s a miracle

During the day he sleep 3-4 times 30min to 2h each time.

Can it be due to teething? Are we doing something wrong ?

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Does he breastfeed or formula feed?

Breastmilk doesn't last in the system as long, so they get hungrier quicker.

But no you are not doing something wrong, and yes he's probably teething.

Did you start to introduce puree (or solid) food? My son also woke up from sleep every hour during the 5th months, we did not realize that because the breastmilk is not enough for him anymore, as we plan to introduce solid food to him from 6th months. Not until when our doctor mention this...

He’s getting formula about 8 ounces per 3h

How much solids are you feeding him? My son went through something similar where his appetite spiked at about 6-7 months.

Since my son is mainly breastfeeded so is definitely different than yours, but you can slightly increase the portion. For me, I just made more and let my son to decide himself whether it is enough or not. For example when I made the beetroot or avocado puree, he could finish half of beetroot or avocado, or even a whole tablespoon of home made oatmeal. And he is 6 month old.

But sometimes, after 3 or 4 spoon, he just show that it is enough for him for this meal session.

    Baby regressing?

According to our doctor baby cereal isn’t really a good source of nutrients to be quantified as a sole solid meal. It lacks the amount of calories needed to help a baby feel full. You’re better off adding another scoop of formula to his bottles.

We basically had to start making meals for him like chicken soup and whatever you call asopao in English and purée the shit out of it because he was in the 11th percentile for his weight.

He started to sleep whole nights after that with little to no issues.

Some food that you are giving him could be causing issues with his digestive system. One of our sons couldn't tolerate the oatmeal or rice cereals at all. Every kid is different. No you aren't doing anything wrong. No your baby isn't "regressing" believe me after three kids I have seen real regression. (When your potty trained older child starts pooping their pants after a younger sibling is born).

Kids and babies change almost daily in how they do things. It is hard to keep up with it happens so fast sometimes.

(This is more for when they are older.)
Also one of the best pieces of advice with respect to food and kids I ever received is that you cannot look at a single day you have to look at a whole week. How much they eat and what they eat can vary from day to day but as long as they get enough over the course of a week and have good variety over a week that is what is most important. My 7yo will eat nothing but a single granola bar and a couple tangerines one day and then eat a huge lunch and 2 or 3 helpings of dinner the next day.

Sometimes all we can get our 3yo to eat is yogurt and pizza then the next day he is chowing down on salad and avocado and salsa.

Oh also your kid is probably teething. It is hell. It sucks and super painful. Sometimes kids even get fevers during teething or really bad diarrhea.

Does he check a number of these boxes? If so he is likely going through a development leap that goes from months 6-9. Have fun!

It's actually normal for sleep regression to occur right around this age.

Unless he's not gaining weight, is inconsolable, or is ill (fever, etc) it's perfectly normal behavior.

Start tracking how much he's eating. When we fought with our daughter to sleep at night when she was a newborn it 9/10 we didn't give her enough to eat (at least in her mind, which let's be honest is the only one that matters). Yes I could get her to sleep by holding her, but the second I put her down she screamed again. We fought her the first 7 days of her life until we realized she just wasn't getting what she wanted. So we switched to pumping and bottle feeding.

If breast / pumping give them as much as they want. Breast milk we were told has a natural limiter so they won't over eat. If formula, consider slowly giving him more (you can overfeed with formula).

It does get better, at 3-4 months we moved her into her crib. At 6-7 months we sleep trained. But yeah months 0-3 were brutal.
