on this very site i've called bs on a roughing the passer call dak got this year because of something very similar. he was a runner, he got hit, got a flag, and i didn't think it was right. i'm not archie. i'm pretty unbiased about football in general

if dak runs like a rb he should be hit like a rb. if he doesn't wanna get hit like a rb he can slide like everyone else and be completely protected by the rules and the refs

i related this to mma.

in mma you aren't allowed to to punch a guy in the back of the head, just like how in football you aren't allowed to to hit a players helmet with your own. however, there is a caveat to that rule in both sports. if you move your head in such a way that your opponent ends up hitting your head by accident your opponent isn't deemed to be at fault. your own head movement is the thing that allowed that strike to hit you in the illegal hit box. as a result the foul is not a foul and considered clean. football has the exact same rule set. they've set it up that way because players are moving targets. what you end up hitting may not be what you were targeting to begin with.

i see people cry foul for back of the head constantly in mma too, despite the fact the victim of the strike is actually the one that is at fault for it.

it drives me nuts tbh
