If you had a very short career, then yeah, you likely do. That is the point. These old heads aren't voting on a guy who only played a handful of seasons unless they were just absolutely among the best ever.

The problem is Luke didn't play long enough to define an era. 3 of his seasons were also Patrick Willis seasons, are they in different eras?

Yes he has the top two total tackle seasons all time in NCAA (191 and 183)

It came up because Evan Weaver at Cal got up to third all time this year with 181

The 191 were also only in 12 games. Next two seasons were 13 game seasons

Johnson, Gronk, Willis, Luck, etc. This is going to start happening more and more often with the knowledge we have today of what the physicality of football does to you. Add to the fact players nowadays are also a lot smarter and better equipped to handle their finances, so not as many are bound to keep playing for a paycheck.

I saw some Steelers fans posting today that AB has always been like that, since he became a starter and well before he had a big contract.
