Also Mitt was a literal caricature of an old rich white movie villain running against a hip young black guy and he pulled 6%. Trump was running against one of the people responsible for imprisoning hundreds of thousands of black people and he could only get 2% better. A smart play by Biden would be to say he doesn't want to defund police, he wants to rethink policing, and then just use all the exact same talking points as defund the police.

This is true. "Defund the police" sounds simple, but the actual policy most of the people who shout it are supporting is "Reduce the duties of the police to the rare situations where we need an armed officer to intervene in a conflict, and shift most of the stuff we've forced the police to pick up elsewhere. Along the way, the demand for armed officers will decrease and thus we can reduce funding for the police department and might nominally fire everyone and rehire the reduced staff into a different department."
