After the surprise reveal of Hitman 3 during today’s PlayStation 5 showcase, we’re extremely excited to finally share more details about the next chapter in our beloved franchise!

Hitman 3 is the dramatic conclusion to the World of Assassination trilogy and will put you back into the shoes (and stylish suit) of Agent 47, a ruthless professional assassin who must take on the most important contracts of his career. The stakes are high and when all is said and done, Agent 47 and the world around him will never be the same again.

The Hitman 3 Announcement Trailer will give you a first look at what you can look forward to when the game launches in January 2021 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4!

Hitman 3 will take you around the world to exotic and luxurious locations that are packed with creative opportunities. Your ultimate goal is to explore these meticulously crafted locales and figure out exactly how you want to eliminate your targets. You’ll have complete freedom to take disguises, create “accidents,” interact with other characters and blend into the crowd to watch your master plan unfold – or gloriously fail. That’s also part of the charm!

As long-time Hitman fans will know, our games and locations are always built with unparalleled player choice and replayability in mind. Hitman 3 is no different. In fact, our next game encourages players to explore and interact with the game world in new ways that will reward them in future playthroughs. We want the game to be tactile and we want players to feel that their actions have an impact on what is going on around them and their future playthroughs.

Hitman 3 is the conclusion to the World of Assassination trilogy and we’re very happy to allow players to carryover locations and progression from Hitman 2 into Hitman 3. We’re very proud to have the entire trilogy all playable from within Hitman 3 and to make it the ultimate place to play any game from the trilogy.

One Year Exclusive on the Epic Store, H2 Steam Progress can be Transferred

We’ve shown you Dubai. Now it’s time for Dartmoor.

Hitman 3’s second mission location takes you to a historical part of England known for its grassy meadows, rocky hilltops, winding rivers and dense wetlands. Dartmoor also has a reputation for myths, legends and mysteries – and Thornbridge Manor lives up to that!

The Thornbridge Mystery trailer focuses on just one of the Mission Stories available to players in Dartmoor. Besides playing detective and piecing the mystery together, you’ll have full freedom to explore and create your own plans. Today, we’re focusing on the ‘murder mystery’ element of the mission because it’s unique and something we’ve always thought about doing ‘one day’. We’ve even talked about Hitman games as a ‘reverse murder mystery’ in the past. Typically, a murder mystery tasks you with figuring out how someone has died, whereas in Hitman, you need to figure out how to kill someone. In Hitman 3’s Dartmoor location, those worlds collide as you can take on the role of detective to solve a murder and eliminate your target. Two birds, one disguise.

At the IOI Copenhagen office, we have a whiteboard dedicated to this mission. It’s sat near our writers and is full of post-its, scribbles and pieces of string that connect different pieces of information. It’s got way too many spoilers on it, so we can’t share it here but we’ll save some photos for another day. For a visual reference, think of the the wall you see at the end of the Colorado mission in Hitman 1. This one.

To tell you more about what it’s like working on the Dartmoor location, here’s Nick Price, Lead Writer on Hitman 3:

“Hitman missions are very complicated affairs with plenty of moving parts and lots of characters you are able to interact with in a huge variety of ways. In Dartmoor’s murder mystery, we are dialing all of that up to 11.

Every member of the family is a possible suspect and it’s been quite the challenge to make sure everything doesn’t fall apart just because the player wants to play around. In fact, that sort of behaviour should be rewarded in a Hitman game, so we have been working hard on making sure that depending on what a player discovers during their investigation, outcomes might differ. It’s going to be great fun to see how everyone tackles this particular problem next year.”

Pre-orders

Hitman 3 pre-orders are scheduled to go live later this month and we’re pleased to have an updated line-up of platforms. In January 2021, you’ll be able to play Hitman 3 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC, where the game will be available exclusively via Epic Games Store for 12 months.

As an independent studio, our partnership with Epic has given us the freedom to create Hitman 3 exactly as we imagined and self-publish the game to our players directly. It’s also important to us that we honour the time our existing PC players have spent in our previous games.

With that in mind, we are pleased to confirm that PC players will be able to carryover their current progression and unlocks from Hitman 2 on Steam into Hitman 3 on Epic Games Store. It will also be possible for PC players to import locations from the previous two games into Hitman 3 on Epic Games Store. We want to make it a seamless process for our PC players to enjoy Hitman 3 on a different PC platform and continue to enjoy the benefits of our World of Assassination.

My hard drive is going to hate me. Shame they didn't just move it all to a Hitman 'hub' for the three games, but that would have been difficult to manage with all the publisher hopping/going solo. Probably is the reason they're just doing this import method instead, but I got so many challenges/achievements to do yet on the original titles.

Still no word as to whether the VR mode will be PSVR exclusive or not, as there's been zero mention of it for PC that I've seen since the reveal. Might not for the duration of the year EGS has it, so Epic doesn't net themselves another 'exclusive' game that relies on Steam for an optional function.

January 20th, Next Gen Upgrade is Free

Here we go! Pre-orders for Hitman 3 will start rolling out today and we are excited to reveal the release date, editions, pre-order bonus and our free next-gen upgrade plan.

(Before we start, you should know something: You’ll see the pre-order pages on different stores at different times, so don’t tweet us asking when they’re coming for your specific platform. We’re working on it.)

Release Date

Hitman 3 will be released on 20th January 2021 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, Stadia and PC (via Epic Games Store).

Editions

We’re creating two editions of Hitman 3; The Standard Edition and the Deluxe Edition.

• The Standard Edition includes the Hitman 3 base game. Nice and simple.

• The Deluxe Edition includes the Hitman 3 base game and the Deluxe Pack. Again, nice and simple.

The only difference between the two editions is the Deluxe Pack, which includes Deluxe Escalations, in-game items and suits as well as digital soundtracks and more.

Pre-order Bonus

The Hitman 3 pre-order bonus celebrates all three games in the World of Assassination trilogy. Introducing the Trinity Pack. You’ll get it just by pre-ordering the game, no matter what platform or edition.

The Trinity Pack includes a total of 9 items, with 3 distinct sets that represent a different game from the trilogy. Each set includes a suit, briefcase and weapon. From the White of Hitman 1, the Red of Hitman 2 or the Black of Hitman 3, you’ll have all 9 items in your inventory to mix and match as you like. The classic Hitman insignia is etched onto the items in gold to add an elegant flourish.

Next-gen Upgrade

Yes, we’re doing a next-gen upgrade for consoles and yes, it’s free. Console players can buy (including pre-order) a digital edition of Hitman 3 on the current generation of platforms and receive a free upgrade to the next-gen version of the game for no additional cost.

To break that down a bit more, here’s how it’ll work: On PlayStation, when you buy a digital PS4 version of Hitman 3 from the PlayStation Store, you can download the PS5 version at no extra cost when it launches. On Xbox, Hitman 3 leverages Smart Delivery allowing access to both the Xbox One title and Xbox Series X title when available.

Chongqing is a new location for Hitman III, taking Agent 47 to the rainy, neon-lit streets of a Chinese transportation hub packed full of shops and food stands, all crammed into tight streets—with plenty of secrets off the beaten path. Chongqing is also the destination to showcase improvements and refinements coming to Hitman III‘s technology.

Powered by IO Interactive’s proprietary Glacier engine, Hitman III will look, sound and play better than ever with improvements to lighting, reflections, animation and AI. Chongqing also features full water effects, with details such as rain drops hitting Agent 47 and his clothes getting wet, all adding to the immersion of experiencing Hitman III.

Seven Deadly Sins - Seven Part Escalation-Based DLC

The Seven Deadly Sins Announcement Trailer gives you an early look of what to expect from Act 1: Greed later this month.

The focus of Act 1: Greed is a new Escalation called The Greed Enumeration, which allows you to carry certain items over between each of the three stages. Feeling greedy? Prove it!

As well as the new Escalation, Act 1: Greed will also includes the unlockable Rapacious Suit and two sin-themed items; the Greedy Little Coin and The Devil’s Cane.

To enjoy the new Hitman 3: Seven Deadly Sins expansion, players can purchase each content pack individually, or purchase all seven together as part of the Seven Deadly Sins Collection, which gives players access to all seven content packs as they are released over time at a reduced price compared to purchasing each pack separately.

Hitman 3: Seasons of Sin

As well as the Seven Deadly Sins Collection, Hitman 3 owners can continue to enjoy ‘live content’ that is added to the game at no additional cos. As we’ve already done in the last two months, players can expect Escalations, Featured Contracts and Elusive Targets to be added to the game regularly – including brand new Hitman 3 Elusive Targets!

Plus, new seasonal events, such as the Berlin Egg Hunt, will also be available for all owners as well as the returned of much-loved seasonal events from Hitman 1 and Hitman 2.

To support our Seven Deadly Sins expansion, we’re now releasing our regular content as part of a Season of Sin, instead of a monthly roadmap. This is mostly a change in name, because the Escalations, Featured Contracts and Elusive Targets are still coming thick and fast – and free!

So, instead of the April Roadmap, we’re excited to kick-off the the Season of Greed in Hitman 3, which starts the release of new content, both paid (see above) and free for existing owners. A Season of Sin can last anywhere between 4-6 weeks and include Escalations, Featured Contracts and Elusive Targets. The content will be closely tied to the theme of the sin for that season.

More Free Content

The release of the HITMAN 3 Free Starter Pack is just the beginning. Over time, we’ll add more free content from the World of Assassination for a limited time. Whether it’s a full location or an Elusive Target, there’ll be new challenges waiting for you. Anything that we make available for free in the Starter Pack will also be free for HITMAN 3 owners for the same duration, which means that Hawke’s Bay is currently available for all HITMAN 3 players.

Already played HITMAN 1 and 2? Great! The HITMAN 3 Free Starter Pack is the perfect place to get started with the final game in the trilogy.
