IV may hold some of the most important events for the series mythology though, specifically dealing with the Sindar, Hikusaak, and potentials of what/who some of its characters become.

I think 4 is worth at least a single playthrough, and Tactics is a fun little side-game (which actually fits as a canonical sequel to 4), though Tactics does play a little bit slow.

4 and Tactics are standalone as they happen 150 years before 1, so you definitely don't need to play them in order. (Though there are some light references in 5, but that's not a big deal)

Definitely play 1>2>3 then 5, and if you're still craving Suikoden, definitely give 4 and Tactics a play at that point.

Still feel 3 was the worst of the console lot, but that's ancient history by now.

3 did a lot of weird things but it also did a lot of cool things.

I also played it before any of the others so it probably helped me by not going in expecting the classic Suikoden experience.

I really disliked 3 when I first played it, but I think it has aged pretty decently, especially for a blocky 3d style game. I appreciate the story and the storytelling of it a lot more now than I did back then.

Just hit another stretch goal. They better increase the size of that banner because it won't fit enough characters to hit 108 the size it is now. Unless one goal is for a group.
