Question like that, if you download POL from scratch do you still have 25 millions hours of updating to do?
Or did they fix that
I just re-activated and was shocked how fast the POL game update was. Assuming they must have placed nearly all of the current data into the installer setup files and skip most of that slow server download.
You know what screw it, I started it up. I need something to do working from home in this pandemic until Pikmin 3 comes out. I figure I'll reward them for sticking with the game this long and managing to release something new. They even have my macro and game settings backed up to their servers from 2013 still! In a world where AAA game live-services are announced and shutdown within two years, I think that's impressive.
macros and game settings are stored locally. i love u tho
Yes and there's also a way to back them up to the servers.
So is this like really only new Story? Thats it?
Next part was released in yesterday's patch;

Going to be a slow month-to-month rollout.Originally Posted by Ragnarok.Tristonx

It's so bizarre to see how long these kinds of games have lasted.
30 months away, 2-3 quests per patch counting the ones already added, you're looking at about the length of an expansion with that if they drag it out long enough, could easily conclude it on the 20th anniversary with something fancy.
I just hope it's not too bloated with yet another fucking alternate reality/timeline nonsense plot.
Maybe I'm nutty but isn't WoTG the only expansion that dealt like, heavily with alternate timeline shit? I guess Abyssea counts? but I honestly forgot that had a "Story". ROTZ, COP, TOAU and SOA all take place pretty squarely in this timeline/universe even if they have some hints otherwise right?
Like i'm legit asking its been a long long time.
WotG is, from what I remember, the original timeline. Abyssea is what would have happened to the main game's timeline had everyone un-subbed.
WotG jumped the shark with the alternate timelines and such and they can do pretty much anything as arbitrarily as they want after that because there's unlimited dimensions or whatever. Abyssea as well and then RoV, and now this. Once you go multi-dimensional alternate timelines there's no going back without a hard reboot. If the plot and characters can still be entertaining that's good enough at this point.
Are we actually still expecting a 'thing' for the 20th, assuming it's not FFXI-R by Nexon? Voracious to me felt like that would have been the thing they would have announced + had more of a chunk of it to release on that anniversary, vs. the half-hour snacksized bites we're getting currently.
