Like i said above, my gym isn't some small ass gym. It is part of the hospital for physical therapy areas and the money to have the best of the best (Including HVAC which they upgraded during the shutdown). I should also note that I don't have kids, telework 100%, or have a family I visit (About 1500 miles away), so the only person i can hurt is myself.

Also, not being able to lift and really work out is just as important to my mind as it is my body. It relaxes me, boosts my mood, etc. I don't like to go out and drink, or party, or anything like that. I blow off steam by going to the gym.

That said, I know it isn't smart to do it. I've been boxed in my home for 6+ months now, and feeling of depression and doom and gloom can only last so long before it really starts having an impact on my health.

    If there are safety measures in place;
    -mandatory social distancing
-no working out with other people/spotters/etc or congregating to socialize mid-workout
-everyone being given a disinfectant spray and clean cloth to wipe shit down before and after usage
-limited capacity determined by the size of the facility
-limited time to actually work out (no longer then an hour and fifteen minutes)
-scheduled intervals for when someone can actually workout followed by a gym-wide disinfection cleaning
-strongly recommend wearing a mask if not making it mandatory
-checking in every time you show up and reporting any potential symptoms as well as getting your temperature checked
-not being allowed entry if you've recently been out of province/state or recently in contact with someone who's had Covid
-giving personal information in order to keep up with contact tracing

then I don't see what the big problem is. Then again, those are the rules I'm seeing enforced up here in BC

They shouldn't be open for indoor dining either.

I'm unsure of this line of reasoning, because others are unable to do an activity, others shouldn't, even if precautions are taken?

I have no qualms about being called selfish, it's whatever but the reasoning is poor.

They shouldn't, but if we refuse to have a national plan then I don't want to randomly pick winners and losers in the covid economy.

People don't like to cook for their family so they eat out, but then also complain cause the place to burn off those calories are open too. If theyre doing what they can to mitigate risk then so be it, no one else has their back except their patrons.

We bad at this so we should 100% commit to being bad. Got it.

Hard to find anything 400+ lbs that is the right size/grip to lift up. I should also note it has been near impossible since COVID to find weights/racks/etc. My gym was attempting to find some outdoor squat racks for us, and just couldn't get their hands on anything.

Actually at this point yeah. If you didn't order gym equipment by the end of February/March you're stuck on a back order list plus you've got to deal with the huge markups in prices for equipment as well if you do find something. Plus that whole millions of people out of work and not being able to afford rent/food/pay bills....

Anyway this whole discussion is strange.

My point is that you can still work out. Not to the same degree, but that's a fair trade off for safety.

If you want to say "but it's not the same," well, congratulations in joining every other industry at the moment. It may not be ideal for YOU, but it's ideal for EVERYONE.

No matter how well it's done, you absolutely can not say the risk is 0%.

Look, I've been going to protests because I feel that strongly about it and that's a massive risk, so I understand something meaning so much to you and your mental health (that's obviously what's most important here) that you're willing to take the risk and thus risk other's health as well. But please don't try to play it down like it's the safest thing ever.

Edit: I do think Yabs has a fantastic point about the mental health aspect of it though. I'm willing to bet the overwhelming majority of people going to work out aren't so much concerned with being buff as they are getting depressed.
