12 is bad. 8 would have been perfect.
12 is bad. 8 would have been perfect.
The 12 team idea sucks BUT the part of the proposal that includes teams getting to play playoff games in their home stadiums is fucking cool.
8 is the magic number but 12 is the number that Notre Dame and the SEC would agree to because with 12 Notre Dame is essentially punching themselves a reservation to the playoffs every year as long as they don’t lose more than two games, and 12 gives the SEC the opportunity to put 3+ teams in the tournament. You know they will.
https://www.espn.com/college-sports/...a-compensationIn a ruling that could help push changes in college athletics, the Supreme Court on Monday unanimously sided with a group of former college athletes in a dispute with the NCAA over rules limiting certain compensation.
The high court ruled that NCAA limits on the education-related benefits that colleges can offer athletes who play Division I basketball and football can't be enforced.
https://www.cnn.com/2021/06/21/polit...urt/index.htmlA unanimous Supreme Court said on Monday that student athletes could receive education-related payments, in a case that could reshape college sports by allowing more money from a billion-dollar industry to go to the players.
Justice Neil Gorsuch delivered the opinion of the court.
College sports raise billions of dollars from ticket sales, television contracts and merchandise, and supporters of the students say the players are being exploited and barred from the opportunity to monetize their talents. In 2016, for example, the NCAA negotiated an eight-year extension of its broadcasting rights to March Madness, worth $1.1 billion annually.
"Nowhere else in America can businesses get away with agreeing not to pay their workers a fair market rate on the theory that their product is defined by not paying their workers a fair market rate," Kavanaugh wrote. "And under ordinary principles of antitrust law, it is not evident why college sports should be any different. The NCAA is not above the law."
its amazing it's taken this long
Gonna be so many podcasts, car dealership ads, and Onlyfans going up tomorrow.
Just what the sport needs, a bunch of kids who already get in trouble having millions to spend.
You could have done this structurally NCAA. Now its just a gong show buffet.
Not many of these kids are probably podcast able to put on something people would listen to for more than 30 seconds.
Hard to get those Hello Fresh commercials in when they tune out so quick.
The money earning is w/e, but the transfer portal is what is going to ruin college fb.
No one's talking about the real victim here, Jay Bilas.
Just think of all the Wendy's commercial opportunities that are going to go to college athletes instead of him now.
