I saw that and lost my shit. Perfection
Hopefully it has nothing to do with ivalice. Ff12 is one of the most forgettable fucking storylines in the entire series.
12 had a pretty decent storyline. They just choose to tell it from the viewpoint of someone who was completely irrelevant to it
I am playing through 12 right now (the super-remaster edition) and it is fine. For me the largest problem is that the characters suck (particularly Ashe), the writing is bad, and the cutscenes are directed like community theater. The game itself is well made and fun.
I am always hear about these liberal arts majors having to work in coffee shops and shit after they graduate. Why TF do game companies not scoop dozens of them up and get some good writing and a compelling story?
The gameplay and world design in XII was one of/if not the best in the series in my opinion. Would love a game like that again. The story on the other hand I don't rate highly.
XII is a top tier FF game, pretty much every system in it is perfect, just crappy characters. Well, not Balthier or Basch, they're also great.
Part of what made XIII such a disaster for me is that it did everything worse than XII did and still had shitty characters and bad writing.
12 has a great universe setup and they didnt capitalize on it storytelling wise. Gameplay was okay if you weren't on international version, that spell acquisition sucked.
This feels similar to 12 cause 12 was about rebeling against whatever those alien things were and the crystals, and by the end youre doing just that but for different reasons and outcomes than the main antagonist. If theyre doing more along those lines then by all means, please explore that more than 12 did.

12 is why you don't listen to focus testers or whoever else wants you to dump your 20-something "geezer" (out of high school? You're might as well die by japanese standards!) of a protagonist for some teenage gnat because they think it'll better appeal to the Japanese teenage demographic. If you have a goddamn vision for your game, stick with it instead of caving and completely altering the pacing and angle of your game. Vaan had literally nothing to do with the plot. It was a stupid decision the, its a stupid decision now and I honestly hope they learned something from it.
Not every fucking JRPG needs to have a plucky teenager as the face of it. Wake up, Japan.
You know Japan ain't never waking up. Lol
I was thinking about it today while burning through Hunts and I believe that the writing and voice acting in FFXII is actually not terrible. I think the problem sits in the director's chair.
Some of the writing involves fun wordplay. Characters are linguistically distinct and their voice actors play it up (except Ashe, where it sounds like the notes for the VA were, "sound more confused/hesitant. No, more than that")
I think the problem is that we effectively have cinematic quality games these days and they are being directed by a glorified app project manager. Some PMs can tell a story, and some make FFXII.
Say what you will but Vieras were the greatest thing created out of Ivalice.
Bunnygirls that are 2/3 leg, don't speak much, and wear stilettos in a forest.
Again, at some point the buck stops with the director.
T.G Cid is a baller. I fully agree.
FFXII had the best moogles too. fite me
